Sliding dor latch

My shop is atypical pole barn with a 10' sliding door. The current latches on both sides have a hook that pulls the door in with an over center lever. They are not accessible from the outside. The big door is at one end and the man door is at the other end. I am looking for a latch that is accessible from the outside and lockable but can also be opened from the inside. The door opening is framed with the 5X5 poles. So far no one seems to have such a thing.

You'll need to maybe go to something different, they tend to be spendy setups.....

Morton has something like it too, I would expect you could find something for your building.

Door latches in and out

Do what Dr. Walt suggested installing a personnel door. I have double personnel doors on my mini barn so I can remove the garden tractor. Hal

You would still need the side latches to keep the door closed, pulled against the building. So how could that possibly work? You would still have to get inside to release the side latches.

They use the catch on the post to hold the door tight on the sides so no need to latch but would depend on door construction if they will work. Could also use rollers on the bottom at the sides to hold the sides tight.

Yea, there is more to it, the side catches/lip, so it is a spendy overhaul. Basically a whole different design, might be cheaper to just install a walk in door on that side of the shed instead.

But, its an option.

I agree with Dusty Mi - walk door installed under the lean-to in the sidewall. Maybe use a standard pole barn walk door (Plyco, Cannonball, A-OK, etc) with one jamb mounted to the corner post by slider and use a 4x6 post buried at least 3ft down for the other side. For $100 you could make a standard pre-hung steel door work, too.

Appears the slider uses either 2x4 or 2x6 girts installed flat (1½" thick). Cutting into to the slider means cutting the girts (stability/racking problems?), adding weight and possible clearance problems with the walk door threshold when opening the slider.

If it were me, and if there is concrete under the door I would take the slider out, and install an overhead then a man door on the left and be done. I have those on my barn, and they are always in the way, blowing in the wind, or when it freezes and ground swells they hang up.
