Electric shaver problem...

My 8-year-old Norelco shaver died this morning. Norelco says to send to them for factory service, which will cost as much as a new shaver with paying the freight both ways. Found a new battery for $10 + $5 shipping that I could solder in myself - but it also needs a new $35 head.

I also have a 4-year old Norelco Senso touch, but like the old one better when my whiskers grow a few days. I've been using the Senso touch as a "clean up" shaver after I mow off the longer whiskers with the old shaver.

I can buy a new shaver at Costco for $60 that comes with an extra replacement head. However I found out online that is not a current Norelco model and has poor reviews. Costco ain't like it used to be with the new CEO; the old CEO never would have allowed selling obsolete/non-current models. Maybe the new CEO came from WalMart, which carries a lot of non-current models in different things. Costco has a top of the line Norelco for $180, but I'll pass on that one.

I think I'll just wait awhile and see what comes along in the future. I'll get by with my Senso touch shaver until I find something that I want.

Never had any luck with electric shavers so if and when I shave I use the good old blade type razors. I have a few electric ones but never got a close shave with them

I had the same issue with mine. Think I found heads real cheap at Wallyworld or online. Recently replaced the batteries with a solder in NiCad set for around $3 shipped from Hong Kong off Ebay.

I go along with you the old Norelco are a better shaver than the new ones. Wife bought me a new Norelco for Christmas several years ago and I don't like the way it shaves. I get a better shave from those throw away Bic shavers.

I agree with you that Norelco is a poor semblance of what it used to be. The heads do not shave as well as they used to years ago and I have been lucky to get 2 months out of the replacement heads before they go dull. Years ago the heads would last a year or more before going dull. Have owned a couple of Remington razors and never cared for them either. A couple of years ago I bought a Braun razor. They shave close and I get about 4-5 months on a head before they go dull. The replacement heads are not quite as expensive as Norelco either. The heads still don't last as long as they should, but they seem to be much better quality than the junk Norelco is selling right now.

I'm 66 and never had an electric shaver until my wife got me a Norelco senso touch 3 d for X mass. Been on blood thinner for about 10 years and with 2 moles shaving in a hurry could get pretty bloody. I'm retired now and only shave every 3 or 4 days and the new shaver seems to take forever and isn't a very close shave either, but no blood shed since.

I agree, the old ones were better. My wife bought me a 'Remington' 960 (cheepie) about 8 years ago. It was 19.95 ! ! I have a 'light' growth beard but the cutters did get dull. One day I put a light coat of Mennon AFTA 'after shave conditioner', on my face before shaving. wow, my old dull shaver shaved like new ! really ! Soon, I had to also solder in NICAD's, then later the charger circuits went bad. So I dug up a 5vdc power supply(from some game)and soldered that in. Not too portable anymore but it is still cutting whiskers.

To me a shaver is the person doing the shaving. The tool that the shaver is using is a razor, either electric or blade.
