Identify a Tool

A friend of mine found this among some stuff in the back of his Late Dad's shed.
Neither he nor I have ever seen anything quite like it.
Perhaps some of you guys can identify it for us?
I neglected to measure it but it is probably about 11 to 12 inches at the widest part of the arc.

I believe that it is simply a push stick for working with a band saw when cutting stock. It saves a lot of fingers.

Send it in to the Farm Collector Magazine as they have a page or two just for identifying old tools like yours.

Yes, it is a pusher for a band saw. The teeth on each side by the handles are for a roller chain. Some saws were equipped with a power feed that was a loop of roller chain that held tension on the part being sawed.

Push tool it is, as recognized below.
See the cuts made as the blade came through the stock being cut. We have two of them in our Machine Lab. Jim

Thanks guys, another mystery solved....I see now the cuts made by the band saw blade.
I can see where this thing could save a finger or two!

(quoted from post at 10:40:14 05/26/15) Yes, it is a pusher for a band saw. The teeth on each side by the handles are for a roller chain. Some saws were equipped with a power feed that was a loop of roller chain that held tension on the part being sawed.

I used one in one shop that used the roller chain, and it was connected to a foot pedal to provide tension. I think the were sold with DoAll and StartRite bandsaws.

I used one on a DoAll bandsaw back when I was an apprentice. It had a loop of roller chain that went to sprockets on the back end of the table. A knob at the front of the table could turn the sprockets to steer the part for contour cuts.

mike is right, it is a work pc holders for working in a band saw. keeps from having people puch there finger into the saw blade.

I've been working with band saws professionally for more than 42 years and I fail to see how someone could use that as a push stick.
