Looking for a timer

I am rebuilding a kids ride like out in front of stores. I need a timer for it. The motor is 110v and pulls 15a. I want one so it will run for around 1 minute and cut off. I have looked and haven't found one. Anyone know where to get one?

Grainger, McMaster Carr, Graybar, Crescent Supply or any Electrical jobber. Look for a timing or time delay relay or a relay with a delay-off function. Omron is a
common brand but about every electric manufacturer makes one. You choose the control voltage what the contacts are rated for. Size it to your motor load OR use the
relay to fire a contactor. You wire it up so the start button fires the relay which will run for the amount of time you dialed into the relay. For your application
choose a relay with 120V control.

Look on Ebay, there are many to choose from. Finding a timer rated for 15 amps is going to be expensive
unless you find one used or someone is offering a good deal. An alternative is to use a low amp timer and a
relay.

Don't know exactly how you are wiring this, but timers come in many different configurations. Some things to
consider are wiring it so not to have accidental starts on power up or power flicker, and an emergency stop
function.

Do you have existing wiring? A wiring diagram you could post?

Give Automation Direct a shot. They have a good variety of timers, as well as relays, and about the best prices around.

The biggest problem your going to run into is the amperage needed in your application. Most timers are going to have contacts rated around 5 amps or less. Your best bet is going to be to have the timer contacts operate a separate relay that will handle the amperage you need.

Some of the adjustable timing relays shown below won't handle 15a, Use the timing relays
to power up a regular relay that will handle 15a. You will have to get both the timing
relay and power relay to use the same voltage.

Central air conditioners use delay relays so the compressor doesn't come on right away,
usually a 3 minute delay for on. Most of the timing relays you can get off ebay have
both delay on and delay off.

I find heavy duty stuff like that on EBay. My favorite source for these types of things is Zorro Tools.

Great company, fast shipping and very fair pricing.

You can go with Grainger as well but you will pay a premium.

(quoted from post at 08:56:31 05/25/15) How are you going to activate the timer? ....Coin switch? ....Momentary push-button?

Still in planning stage. I was hoping to get a timer with a way to activate it on the timer it's self. I have a wind up timer that would be perfect except it won't time for less than several min. I would like it to be able for 30 sec. to a min.

Omron timers are 4.06 through eBay. You will need
to get a relay to carry the current. Be sure to get the
necessary relay bases while you are there. You
should have less than 20 in the whole setup. Aaron

Aaron,
This is what I need. I can't find the other parts I need. Could you find them for me so I can order them?

This is a 120v 0-120 second timer. I think it's a double pole double throw timer. So
it's both a delay on and a delay off timer combo. It can only handle 5 amps so this
has to be used to pull in a larger relay that can handle your 15 amps

This is a square D 30 amp relay 120v coil. This will more than handle your needs.

Now you just have to figure out how to make the first timer(0-120seconds) power up the
30 amp relay, should be kids play.

This is what I found but it looks like Geo already has it covered. Thanks Geo! A different angle would be to break down your loads into separate ice cube relays and drive them all with the same timer. Sounds like a cool project. Aaron
