Can I charge a18v battery on a 24v charger? It's for a 24v weed trimmer, the manual says it can also use an 18v battery. The 18v battery fits trimmer but not the charger. If I cut the small tab off the battery it will slide on the charger, is that ok? Thanks.

Not sure if you cans safely use 24v charger. I have used chargers that were bigger than intended, but I installed a 12v seal beam in series between the larger charger and smaller battery. Seal beam usually limits current enough, less than 2 amps and battery charges just fine.

Hello dbuck,

NO! The 18 volts charger will go to 24 volts or less with a good battery. A 24 volt charger will go to 30 volts. The 24 volt charger will probably charge at 1 more amp hour then the 18 volts one. Way too much..........

Let's just say that that tab you are thinking of cutting off is a safety device - to prevent using the wrong charger for the battery you want to charge. So, you cut off the tab, try to charge that battery, and you burn up the battery and burn out the charger. And, you may end up burning down the charging area as well. Smart money says to leave things as they are and get the RIGHT charger and charge the battery properly - and eliminate a LOT of risk in the process.
