Dog psychology?

Some of you may understand how dogs think. Makes me wonder about the two dogs on the neighbouring acreage, they are friendly and somewhat shy and we try to befriend them if they come over, my wife will do it with cookies and treats. In return they do their crap in our yard. I'm starting to wonder if that's how they show their approval of our association or "this is all we have to offer you in return" ?? If we are away for extended time they cut right back. It only takes one wrong step and I remember that the first and foremost duty for me is grab the shovel and circle the yard before it's safe to tread. We don't have dogs ourselves. I wish I knew their train of thought or strategy??

It's just their way of saying the yard is theirs, NOT yours, not matter what you think......... Too, in that same line of reasoning, they want other animals to know it's their yard, therefore any treats, etc available in the yard are there's too.

Reverse the psychology. nnalert their ace and pee on the marker piles. And higher up the tree if there is a peeing post (might be shown by scratch marks on the ground) near.

YMMV

That pretty much works to when it comes to establishing dominance. I had an Uncle that raised hunting dogs tell me that when faced with a stubborn male to hold his leash and pee on his head. When my lab showed he wanted to be the dominate one, I did just that. It works. I told another guy I know, that had a similarly stubborn lab, about the trick and he said he tried it. He said it worked for him too.

Basically in dog talk, your saying "I'm bigger than you (thus I can pee on your head), and I am marking you as mine" both things the dog understands, and respects, if that's the correct term to use.

Dogs don't like to soil there own area, so your it. Our dogs go almost to the woods, 100yds or so to do their business, even in the winter.

Not sure if it only works on the males, or not. I never remember my Uncle saying anything about it in regard to the females. He said it always worked (for him) on the males as they were more the ones who used urine to establish/mark their territory as well as establishing dominance within the pack.

A dog psychiatrist once wrote a book, "Is Your Cocker Off His Rocker?", "Is Your Poodle Off His Noodle?", Is Your Mutt Off His Nut?"

Oh, well.
