Old Westinghouse buzz box

This is the kind with a crank on top and a core moves up & down to adj. current . The center is lined with metal that is worn out and causing alot of noise and vibration. I'm going to try and repair it , What kind of metal is it ? Is it zinc ?

Sorry I can't answer your question but I have one like it and it welds really nice. I like the crank setting because you can get exactly the amperage you need.

It was old when I got it and I welded with it for 10 years , but I got an a/c d/c Tombstone real cheap , and now that's my go to welder. I'd still like to fix the old one though so I can sell it .

EPoxy the loose components to the cores. If there is room, place (glue) new material in that location to take up the space.
