Garden tractor tire

Im having trouble with a small front tire on garden tractor. I took off the tire and used a wire grinder and buffed the edge of the rim. I can get it to take air but it goes down. Is there anything i can put on the tire? Like gasket cement or is that a bad idea.

Like Gary said, bead sealer, most tire suppliers have it, or put a tube in it. I did that last week to a 16x6.00x6.

Hello davyfireball
Try some grease. Coat the rim where the tire makes contact,

Guido.

I got so disgusted trying to keep the little front tires aired up, I replaced them with flat-free tires and
wheels. Northern Tool has a good selection.

95% of tubeless tires around here have tubes. How
am I suppised to get my money's worth if they won't
hold air after 20 measly years???

Sometimes I use a tube. Once I couldn't get a tube so I put tire under water and found
where the leak was. Then I put a little green slime in tire. Positioned tire so slime
was over hole, added a little air. A little green came out hole and then sealed it. I
have added a coating of green slime to tire bead, positioned rim away from me before
adding air. If you don't, you will see what happens when the bead hits the slime, it
will go all over you.

If I can't use a tube - I have had some luck by buffing the bead on the tire with a wire wheel to remove that glaze.

put a tube in it, go to a tire shop and buy 1. don't go to the box stores if you do you will probably be replacing it soon. The green slime and other stuff will work for a little while but it just makes a mess when you have to have it fixed right.

I'm wondering if you wet tested to see if the leak is some place other than bead leak. If it proves to be a bead leak I just use bead sealer. In tread area verify no nail/staple plug it or use tube. My lawnmower has 1 tire with 3 push-in plugs as had 3 nails in tread area and and another 1 a tube.

Hey , front tire is no problem! Go on Youtube and look up how to make your tire puncture proof! Easy as pie and it looks like fun! Let us know!!!

Davyfireball,For a small mower tire that leaks between the bead and the rim,or even one that won't air up.I just run a bead of clear RTV silicone around the inside of the rim flange on both sides and air it up the silicone will seal the leaks between the rim and tire bead.

If I get a leak in a tire itself, such as a nail or thorn I just put a tube in it. If it does not seal around the bead, I use a wire wheel or brush and clean it good and use a little liquid soap to help it seal and it generally works. I tinker with a lot of mowers and about five years ago I bought a small tire changer from China Freight, it is quite handy, a lot better than trying to mount a tire with a screwdriver.

Tire sealer made just for that, think it is in every thing that has a tubles tire that I have.

Green tire slime is a good product to seal small leaks. I use synthetic grease on the tire beads to seal the beads on tubeless tires. You could always install a tube if your tire is prone to leaking

I've been down that road with more than a few lawn tractor tires. I had one on and off the tractor so many times that I thought I would wear out the spindle. Finally gave up and put a tube in it. It has been holding air for about two years now since putting the tube in it.
I got a bunch of tubes out of a junk yard in my area that has a LOT of old garden and lawn tractors. Tires on most of them are past being usable. I took a bunch of them apart and grabbed the tubes. Took them to the counter, and the guy looked at them and said "take them away" and didn't even charge me for them.
