The subject of boots comes up regularly. maybe six months ago a number of people recommended Keen boots. I got a pair about a year ago,and after six months a seam in the back started to open up. They gave me a new pair, and six months later the new ones are opening up. has anyone had this happen to them?

Ya, they dont seem to be a super long lasting shoe (I get the shoes, not the boots). Very comfortable but last about a year. I still think they are worth it, I catch sales at Zappos.com and just have a spare new set, ready to go.

If its just a seam letting loose, stich it up yourself, I have done that many times with lots of different brands. Get a small needle, stiching awl or a big sewing needle and a thimble (a needle nose will work but its harder). Get the heaviest thread you can find at WalMart or thin tip-up line. I think its faster to sew em up than to ask for new ones, YMMV.

I have had at least 6 pairs of Keen shoes over the years and I think they are the most comfortable shoes out there in at that price point. I usually get about two years out of they shoes(not worn daily). As for the boots, I have my first pair here in a box ready to go when my Danners wear out. What I have found anymore is no one makes a truely durable long lasting boot below the $200 price point. I have been buying Danner hiking boots for years and I am lucky to get a year out of them. I am hoping the Keen boots are as comfortable as the Keen shoes and as durable.

I had my Danner boots for about 3-4 years now and while not worn daily when I do they see heavy duty use.

Though I will admit when they do go I will go back to Red Wing Boots

Not impressed with the durability of Keen. Functionally they are great; comfortable and the waterproof versions are really good. For my money I prefer a Merrell light hiking shoe. Functionally just as good and comfortable as a Keen but last 2-3 times longer. I wore the sole off my last pair. Can't do that with Keens, the uppers wear out first.

I had worn Red Wings for probably thirty years. Getting four years out of them I couldn't afford the cheaper brands, but I had to try something else due to a fit problem. I can't afford the Keens though at two pair per year.

I wouldn't buy John Deere anything normally but I have been wearing John Deere wellington style boots for many years. I am on the fifth year on the ones I have now. I wear them every day in the factory and to do chores every day it is not muddy or deep snow. They are water proof and I have waded water toe high many times. The outside of the toes have become stained from hydraulic oil from the factory. I have never had a stitch break even though they have been in the manure a lot as well as hydraulic oil. Dixie asks that I take them off in the garage because they make the back Bath/mud room smell like horse manure. I would bet there is another year at the least in them yet. 97 bucks with free shipping on this pair. I had to hunt to get that price. Not sure what they are now.
