What trade's hammer is this ?

Just got these two today . Very special purpose hammers . One faintly says Dixon. Both marked BD ED NYC . which seems to be Board of Education NY City. Google shows a Dixon silversmith's hammer close but not the same.
Certainly for forming some type metal with very specific shapes.

very rare antique doctors thingmabubs they used to hit you on the knee to test reflexes. actually I don't know what they were used for.

I think it's a raising hammer, which is a silversmith's hammer. Use Google Images to see raising hammers, and you'll see several that look like yours.

yeah - any time you don't know what a hammer like that is used for, it's safe to call it a tin smith hammer.

They come in lots of odd shapes and sizes all for various purposes, and it's probably what those are.
