computer slowdown

I've noticed lately that when I'm reading posts in this forum, my computer does not respond to my command as quickly as it used to. I've run the registry cleaner, the anti-virus, and the spybot search, but these don't seem to improve it. It seemed to start doing this about the same time as my internet provider sent me a notice of limits on my plan usage. It's been so long since I signed up with them, that I don't remember the original limits, but I think we may be receiving less for the same price we've been paying. Their letter was in response to the net-neutrality vote and court cases that have been in the news. I'm guessing that the internet providers are providing less and making more money for themselves-a money grab. Is anybody else having similar problems?

Nope. Try ccleaner.com. Ccleaner, think "computer cleaner", gets rid of the 8 zillion bits of saved info that is clogging up your computer. Every single page you've looked at is stored in your computer someplace, every address of every website you've ever visited, every cookie that site left, etc. Cleaner won't remove your bookmarks but it will dump all the coolies so you;ll need to log back on to pages like this one. I run it once every 6 weeks or so and the difference in speed is significant. Cleaner also has other tools you can use and is FREE.

Sometimes this site is just slow. Happens to ALL sites at random times. Probably has nothing to do with your computer.

Be careful with that CC cleaner. Some of those programs will install stuff you don't want, and delete stuff you DO want.

You could also have a bug. About three weeks ago just a sudden slow down. Just as you have said. Shop cleaned up the hard drive overnite and Zoooom!

Perhaps this IS what you are referring to when you say registry cleaner - but just in case that's something different...

Here are step-by-step instructions that our computer tech walked me through at work ([u:d955e34fe3]and it significantly speeded up our computers[/u:d955e34fe3]):

Your computer should be set to defragment on a regularly scheduled basis (it will run in the background)…

But in addition to that - ABOUT ONCE PER MONTH do these two things:

FIRST CLOSE ALL PROGRAMS THAT YOU MAY HAVE OPEN
• Open folder for Windows Explorer (Windows… NOT internet explorer)
• RIGHT-click on C Drive, shown as OS: (C: )
• LEFT-click on Properties in the drop-down menu
• Click on Disk Cleanup button
• Put a check-mark in ALL boxes of the menu that opens
• Let it run and it will delete the applicable files

The OTHER ITEM TO DO is in that same Properties Window:
• In that window Click on Tools Tab
• Click on Check Now button
• In the menu box that opens up, only the top box will have a check-mark (leave it that way)
• Click that box’s Start button and let it run

Yes, ccleaner has worked for me for quite a while. I still use it, but this problem seems to be on the cleaner won't take care of.

Hope it helps.

10 years ago, I barely knew how to use a computer. Had a boss that taught me a lot and the tech we call-in at work is great about teaching me/letting me write it down so I don't have to call him all the time. So I'm always willing to share anything I learn about these darned electronic brains. LOL.

My OS must be different from yours. I couldn't locate the tabs you mentioned. But I did refresh Firefox, and that seems to have helped.
