OT smart phones

Just curious as to getting new smart phones for the wife and I to replace the old dumb ones we now have. What is the average monthly usage cost, not counting the new phone cost. Thanks for the info.

Verizon pre paid $45 plus tax. My phone cost $75 Unlimited talk, pics, text, 1G data. Dropped land line. That's all I need.

The plan we have with Verizion charges $30 per phone over and above the other regular phone and line charges. They allow 2gb of data with this. My son has the only 'smart' phone and the 2gb will last him through the month. It would probably last the two of you as well. Remember that if you are at a place with wifi, you can use that for internet and save on the data allotment.

I am sure that there are several other plans out there as well. I still have a 3 year old 'flip' phone. Does what I need it to do, and every one I run into has a smart phone and they are usually just tickled to use it for me if I need anything.

Wife and I each have a phone thru Verizon, cost 140 per month. Her work pays $100 of that or we would only have flip phones.

My wife and I have smart phones. She has a Samsung S5 and I have a Samsung S4 with Sprint. It cost us $100 + taxes a month. That is unlimited text; phone and data.

(quoted from post at 18:15:54 04/10/15) Gosh Frank. I don't think that he asked for your opinion.

Here's another opinion. Those "smart" phones ain't nearly as smart as they think they are.

Straight talk. $45 a month and if your high speed data runs out they just knock your speed down. Wouldn't go back to a contract. But craigslist won't let me search because it's prepaid.

They had the LG fuel on sale last fall for $30 is why I got one. They had them on sale again this spring so I got a backup. Only one they had with the latest version of the operating system.

You have to open a Google account and Google tracks every thing your phone does though. Phone won't work without it. 7 months and it still has fits about the GPS being shut off, now and again.

That was uncalled for. The original post asked for opinions about smart phones. To me that means he is also looking for advice on whether to get one or not. I personally don't like them either. There is simply too much information on the average screen to fit on a display that small. BUT - that is my opinion. What Frank said was his opinion. I also think that there is a policy on this forum about posting hostile posts like that.

Just read an article that the smart phone technology has matured enough that the difference between the latest and greatest and last years model is not that much. You can buy last years model, used/refurbished for perhaps 1/3 of a new model and be fine. Save some money.

I found mine to be a useful tool.
Golden State charged $70 prepay, with alll the options but Verizon bought them out amd I HAVENT SIGNED UP YET. Verizon is the only network that works this far into the Sierras.

We have Verizon: Home Connect (replaces the land line, essentially it's a stationary cell phone connected to the wiring in the house $20 a month), I have a flip phone and the wife has a Samsung S5 with 2 gig of data and 1,000 text messages a month plan. We have 550 shared minutes a month, unlimited nights and weekends, on a discount plan through work. Runs us $123.00 a month, except when I forget to pay on time and incurr a $5 late fee (I hate when that happens.)

For those of you offering opinions, the poster DIDN'T ask for your opinion, he ask what we are paying per month. I don't think he cares if you want one, or not, or about how smart you think they are.
