Ok, i am not a mental giant when it comes to all this new digital stuff. I have a point and shoot digital camera that swmbo got me. It did not come with the memory card thing. It says i need a 16 gb sdhc class 6 card. Went to best buy and all they have that is close is a 16 gb sdhc class 10 card. Asked the dude there and he says its the same . ????? What is a class 6 and a class 10? I got the class 10 and it fit in the camera. Is it ok to use????

Its good.

The class is how fast they can transfer data. If it were hydraulics it would be hose size.

Class 10 is a bigger hose. Works fine with something that doesn't need as big a hose.

Video takes a lot of data flow.

It will work just fine. The class refers to the speed that the card can transfer data. 10 is faster than 6. You are taking casual photos if you do like most people, won't be able to tell any difference between the two.

Wow!
I have bought a hundred or so SD and now SDHC cards over the years and I never even heard of "codes".
I usually buy SanDisk brand and I don't see a reference to a code on the card. I'll have to look at the packaging the next time I buy them.

Hello,

The higher the number, the faster the card can be written to.
10 is good............point and shoot!

Guido.

Yup..Faster is gooder. Go on line and Google SD card speeds and such. I don't remember how many bits per second that card will transfer but it is very fast. Right now I think 10 is the fastest for SD cards. My professional camera uses CF cards. They are rated by a speed number. 100.300.600 etc. The newest one are over 1200. This means they are screaming at over 200MB per second! Tech stuff but rest easy that is a very good card. Hope your camera is over 16mp for image. Jeffact
