Milwaukee Fuel 18volt cordless impact- Impressive!

I've been watching for a good 1/2" drive cordless impact far around the farm for a few years. I have a couple cheap 1/4" Ryobi's which are handy for little stuff. I'd been hearing good reports on the Milwaukee Fuel impacts (they make different versions) so when they went on sale I finnally got one. This Millwakee (27632) has torque rated at like 1100 ft/bs break way and 700lbs tightening. I got the kit with 2 batteries. Since I got it I haven't used the air impact since around the shop. At the same time I also picked up the 5" cordless angle grinder (tool alone) which works well too. Both seem to be well built products.

I have used the Milwaukee tools over the years and really got my moneys worth. When I needed a 4 1/2" grinder I bought a Milwaukee (made in China) that was so loud I couldn't stand to be in the same area it was. I took it back and bought a Bosch, never ever looked back.

i been kicking around getting a cordless impact. have all snap on air guns, and an i/r 1 inch long barrel impact. all my battery tools are dewalt 18v so i have all the same batteries. that milwaukee looks like a nice gun!! what did that set you back? i have corded milwaukee sawzall and a super, portaband, hammer drill and 4 1/2 grinder, very happy with all of them. they do build nice stuff.

I work with a crew of about 10 guys and 9 of them have Milwaukee Fuel power tools. They used to use Dewalt, but after trying the Milwaukee, everybody has switched (myself included) to the latest Milwaukee. The motors are brushless and the batteries currently seem to last longer than any other brand out there. Now why hasn't the 1 guy switched to Milwaukee? Because he is super paranoid about everybody borrowing his power tools and nobody wants to use his Dewalt tools. That's why he won't switch, even though he has admitted that the Milwaukee tools are better.
We use Milwaukee and we use them hard.

Those battery operated disk grinders scare me in the wrong hands. They will cut just about anything and cheaply. Picture what a thief will cut with that! Nothing will resist a few good cutting wheels.

Yeah i bought a couple of those bosch angle grinders when they were on sale for the shop last fall they seem good.

Well I bought the kit with charger I believe it was $440 on sale. They also had another $100 off if you had a brand name 18 volt tool to trade in.

My snap on air impact I've had for 25 years and it still works. Back then I think i paid 500 for it  but at the time it was the "gun" to get. But then guys in the shop were using the IR's more as they were cheaper. I used to be an auto tech and man I wish i had some of these new cordless tools back then! Digital cameras and things like that would have been handy too!

There is reviews on youtube and basically they say its down to Milwaukee and the IR cordless for these 1/2" type of guns. Dewalt makes one too but it doesn't have as much torque. If you already have dewalt batteries you can by the gun alone on sale probably for a decent price.

Thats the main reason I bought to put a zip disc to cut stuff out in the yard and yeah no pad lock will last if you have one of these tools around!! I've used it some for grinding and its not bad for that either. I have 4 small angle grinders with different attachements by the welding bench handy little tools.

glennster,
Like you, I went with 18v dewalt almost 20 years ago. I have about every dewalt cordless tool made, including the 1/2, (2)1/4, right angle grinder, (2)1/2 hammer drill, grease gun, right angle drill, cordless caulking gun, 30 w florescent light, 6 1/2 cordless saw, dewalt cordless drummel like tool, and those are just the ones I carry in truck. I also have (2) 10 amp 120v right angle grinders for bigger jobs. I also carry an old ½ inch right angle Milwaukee drill. The little 1/4 impacts gets used all the time.

I have a dewalt rotating laser level, which I don't carry in truck, but it's the best. Along with dewalt's 13 inch thickness planner, 8 inch bench grinder. Dewalts have always served me well and if I need a part, I can get them.

I wouldn't mind having the Milwaukee tools, but I haven't had the 18 volt DeWalt for but a few weeks and have already used my batteries in the boss's tools and the boss's batteries with my tools. And the FNG got pink marker paint all over my drill and a battery, first day out of the box! But I got them for using, not looking pretty.

I went yellow due to price and battery compatibility with the boss's stuff.

Snap-on makes a pretty good cordless impact. Our former mechanic had I think a 14.4 volt 3/8, and that thing would do a lot more than I expected it could. Boss bought one and I don't think it's left the shelf where he set it to charge the batteries.

Yes for sure if you already have a certain color of tool most will just add to it as its so much less $$$ if you already have all the batteries and chargers etc.

I have the 3/8" fuel impact 2654-20, the hammer drill and impact drive kit 2797-22(2604-20 and
2653-20), the fuel recip saw and the non fuel cordless grinder. Love all of them. I'm using it day
in and day out.

The 3/8 impact is stronger then the CT8810A Snap-on Li-Ion, lighter and cheaper. It has had a
few little issues, that are border line abuse. Just takes a little bit to get to know it's
boundaries.

I'd like to get the fuel angle grinder (2780-20), just for the additional run time and power,
but the non fuel version isn't really that bad.
I'll likely get the 2673-20 someday, just not right away. I can see it being the best thing ever
for a road tech. It's easily as much impact as the mg725 or the 2135timax. WAY more convienent
though.
