My wife has a factory remote car start for her Lincoln. She had it in the washing machine--no workie-------------any suggestions?????

Let it dry out for a couple of days.

If it does not work, replace the battery.

If it still does not work, replace it.

Open it up(take the battery out) and put it in a bag of rice for a couple of days.

I dunked a GM remote in a swimming pool. The hardest part of fixing it was figuring out how to open it up. After drying it out and replacing the battery it was fine. Good luck.

Trade the car in on something practical without fancy do-dads that do nothing to aid the performance of the vehicle.

Open it and let it dry out for few days. Then check the battery condition.

Check your car's manual if there are any special procedures for that remote.

With FORD remotes. They are made by TRW. This is the older ones like mine. Pop it open and take out batteries. Use a butter knife. The circuit board is held in with a silicon gasket. Pop that out and take it apart. Now you can let everything dry out for a couple of hours. Put her together and see what happens. Any flea market you can find someone selling the batteries or auto zone etc. Most read 3 volts. Jeffcat

You can warm up your car while still in the house get into a warmed up car and go. If your trip to work is short it greatly adds to the life of the vehicle.

Take the battery out and place it in the fridge to dry it out. About two days should do it. When you take it out of the fridge wrap it in the towel to prevent the cold parts from condensing water. Insert the battery and try it out - if it doesn't work you need a new one.

I heard an NPR story about someone who dropped an electronic camera in a river in Wyoming where it stayed for two years before someone else saw it and got it back to the owner by posting pictures from it on Facebook (which was what the story was mainly about). Anyway, the finder got it working by doing exactly what people here are telling you: Take the batteries out and put the device in a container of uncooked rice (the uncooked part is important). Good luck. Tell us what you do and whether it works.

Get it dry as others have said buy you will probably also need to clean the soap residue off the contacts under the buttons. Have had that problem with TV remotes before. They get tangled in with the sheets and stuck in the washer.

I always take those stories with a grain of salt. You can bet the camera was trashed but the memory card is something else. Most all of those cards are sealed and after you dry them off and put it in a card reader you stand a pretty good chance. Two of my friends fix cell phones and tablets and all of that stuff. You can't beleave what people do. Salt water is death no matter what. Fresh water if it has an SD card or Sim card you can pull up a lot of lost information. Hard drives are vented so your toast but the newer digital hard drives you may just luck out.

Hello lenray,

Uncooked rice will do the job. Take the batteries out and anything that opens leave that way. Bury it in rice and wait. You may get lucky in a day or two.....
