The Latest Start Boosters

I have an old Shumacher 200/35/2 booster-charger that I've used for years. Not fond of dragging it around but just wondered if the latest cordless booster-chargers really put out the amps that they claim ... some are 500 or 1000+ starting amps. Are they worth it?

The rated amp output is usually good for only 15-30 seconds, but usually long enough to get you started.

My local NAPA was selling one of them on Black Friday, that was about the size of two packs of cigarettes, but I didn't get a chance to get buy top get one for myself. Based on what a friend that works at the store told me, she has seen a guy start his dump truck with one of them. Given the amperage required to do that, they must work pretty good....at least the expensive ones.

I also know guy who had one, he carried in his car, that was only slightly larger than the one I just mentioned. He said he could get several starts out of it before it had to be recharged.

I broke down and brought a Micro-Start XP-10 form my Interstate battery guy this week, $150... I used it on a Ford Crown Vic they left the head lights on all night... It jumped right off....

A few weeks ago I borrowed one to jump off a van that had been setting for a few mo. bat dead as a door nail it jumped right off  It was were I could not get the tow truck to it...

Its a little more than I would want to tote in my pocket tho...

Have had two home owner grade. Good for a couple light duty boosts before recharging. But very handy forother uses like recharging cell phone in power emergency, portable auto spotlights, other 12v appliances. Don't have a lot faith in them for prolonged cranking jump starts. You can only cram so much electricity in a box the size of a two slice toaster!
