Once you finally get used to the hammering of the little impact driver, and quit letting go of the trigger because you're thinking you're stripping the screw heads out due to using a drill for driving screws for years, that they are pretty handy. Only had one screw give me trouble today, and it was painted instead of galvanized, and couldn't be driven with a drill either. The #2 square hole in the end wasn't made deep enough nor quite large enough to get the bit into it once painted.

Glad I only got a pound of them that day, they are going to accidentally get dropped in a hole somewhere.

I have one of the Makita LXT drivers. While I am normally a big fan of Makita tools, I have not had a good experience with this new driver. Most of the time it ends up fracturing the screw/bolt long before it gets tight. I've had it happen with a variety of fasteners and eventually I just quit using the tool. It almosts seems like the IPMs are too high or something. I've watched folks using Dewalt and Milwaukee drivers and the IPMs seem to be lower and less violent.

I like the rest of my Makita 18V LXT tools but the driver has been a total waste of money for me.

The lumberyard I buy from carries Torx (star) head deck screws, I wont use anything else now.Never stripped one out.

Yup. The Power Pro brand is what my supplier carries. Love 'em.

Not cheap, but worth every penny.

The stuff Deep Homo carries is crap. If you try to drive them into anything harder than balsa wood, the shanks snap.

Nearest chain home store is Menards over an hour away. Don't know where to find a Lowe's or home despot. I'm not in charge of getting screws or we'd have the torx. But I've worked with a guy who could strip them out. Couple days and he'd need a new bit.

I use exclusively Torx and they can be stripped but not near as often as square or (shudder) Plillips. Most times when I strip a torx I'm not on to it straight with the bit. A cheap soft Torx screw strips easier and rounds off a bit quicker.
