My Husqvarna pole saw refused to run today. Would not prime the fuel up from the tank. On opening up the carburetor, I found one of the welch plugs under the the diaphragm was loose. We used to seal those with fingernail polish. Now with the Ethanol problem, what do you guys use?
Thanks!

Give it a little tap to expand it more. Another reason to use Startron in the gas. Breaks the ethanol molecule chain. Locktite sealer for carbs would also work but I would just give it a tap to seat it.

That is why the last tank of two stroke fuel for the season is mixed from 100LL instead of 91 octane pump gas.

So ethanol magically shrinks welch plugs now?

Don't forget that ethanol also dulls chains, causes your shoelaces to untie themselves, and makes trees always fall to the left.

I don't know what a Welch Plug is. But I do know how to use Locktite and it sets up on compression. It's function is thread locking where the torque of the bolt/nut applies pressure to the interface initiating the curing process. I have several red bottles of the different colors, red, blue, and green that are over 12 years old and the stuff is still very liquid, even the spill over on the outside of the container.

So if you don't have an application where you can exert a fair amount of compression I'd say don't expect success. But I don't know as I never used it for anything but the intended purpose.

No, but alcohol does affect some sealants we used before it became the norm. I don't know that fingernail polish is one of those, but we have better sealants available now. Of course a properly installed welch plug shouldn't need a sealant.
