Light bulbs

Don't buy "Great Value Energy Saver Halogen Bulbs". One, just put it
in, (new) just exploded above my computer, it was the 29 watt bulb.
Glass went everywhere. On the other hand, the element is still
shining???? If you will read on the side of the carton, they say it
might explode, why would anyone sell something that will explode. Also on the disclaimer on the side of the box "Do not operate in close proximity of combustibles or materials affected by heat or DYING."

I was taught not to replace those unless the fixture had a glass cover . They are know to explode . They are high heat.

Did you at any time touch them with your bear fingers??? If yes you cause the problem. You are not at any time suppose to touch the bulb with any part of your hand with out a rag or glove etc due to the fact you leave oils from your fingers on them which cause hot spots which cause your problem

I think he is talking about the "new improved" bulbs. They now make some that look exactly like a regular incandescent but inside them they have a halogen bulb. IF these are the bulbs he used then they are OK to touch with your hands unlike the original halogen bulbs that you are thinking of.
On a side note I would agree with the LED bulbs. You can get them to put out light across the color spectrum and are rated to last 25,000 hours or more, however the tradeoff is the initial higher cost. They are heads and shoulders above the fluorescent curly cue bulbs.

I have looked at the LED bulbs but at $25 each I'll wait till the price comes down a lot

Might be where you are but I just priced them last week so I know the price I have said it what it is in my area.

The halogen Bulb is inclosed in a glass container that looks like a regular light bulb. The halogen Bulb is still working. What to do next, I've heard to take a potato and screw the metal part out of the socket, then again, why do that if the light is still working??

Ok so it is one of the new bulbs with a bulb inside a bulb so sounds like it is time to carefully remove it and take it back to where you got it and get your $$ back. If you got it at China Mart no wonder it blew it is from thee land of almost right

California decided that incandescent bulbs were worse for the environment than the mercury in corkscrew bulbs, and made them illegal. 2 years ago when in the city of San Diego I bought a gross of 100 watt bulbs. I take one when travelling, I hate dark hotel rooms and like to read. I found 5 specialty lighting stores in a small area, it must be the "light bulb district"

Who keeps sales receipts from several months ago. I'm just saying, watch what you buy from walley world, I'm glad I wear glasses. They cover their a$$ buy putting a warning which which no one reads. BUY WALLEY WHEN YOU CAN.

You likely have a Target somewhere near you (or if not you can also go to Target's Web site). GE LED 40W and 60W equivalent bulbs are $5 each this week and also buy-two-get-one-free so they're really $3.33 each.

I have been lighting my 40X60 garage with 6-500 watt halogen fixture for thirty years but the last six years and the new replacement bulbs do not hold up ( cheap or expensive). This summer wife had garage sale and during sale one of them exploded. It blew the bulb and the glass lens all over the place ( lucky no one was there at the time). I am now replacing the halogen fixtures as they burn out with Led fixtures that give as much light as the Halogen but are only 30 watts.

I'm not worrying about it for a few years because I bought a bunch of good ole Thomas Edison type bulbs while I still could.

I will tell the stores in may area come down and I know they will once the market has caught up with them
