New tool made in the USA (pics)

I needed a small valve spring compressor to use on a little Waukesha motor that I'm working on. The one I have was just to big to work on the small valves. I ordered two small engine valve compressors off of Amazon the first of the week that I thought would be small enough. They were not expensive so I knew they were made overseas. When I opened the box today sure enough the first one was made in China but when I looked at the other one it said made in the USA! Boy was I surprised and it was the least expensive of the two. So I guess there is still a few tools being made here in the states

I have noticed lower price items that are American made also.
[b:88e90dfa40]That's where I have my greatest problem--Paying American price for China Junk![/b:88e90dfa40]

Hopefully made in the USA. I buy thousands of bearings a year and all come from China. They can come marked made in China, Made in USA or no country markings at all. All three ways will still have the exact same part number engraved.
Illegal you say, sure is, but what are you going to do about it. Barrow less money from China?

(quoted from post at 04:14:59 02/28/15) Do you reckon, that there is an industrial area in China that is called usa?

In the late 1950's an industrial complex in Japan that specialised in knives and general cutlery was named ' Sheffield ' for that very purpose .

In the 1950's Japan renamed one of their towns Usa,
then all of the junk that they exported to the
United States carried a label "Made in USA" . NOTE:
the Japanese labels had NO Decimals after the USA
letters. If it has Decimals, it's made in the United
States.

Doc :>)

What upsets me more is paying american money to
china because I can't find what I want that's made
in USA. Try finding a new drill press made in USA.

Last year, I was in big box store shopping for a 10" miter saw blade.
Irwin, Made in USA was over TWO DOLLARS CHEAPER then De Walt, made in Communist China.
While taking Two Irwins down, an older man just picked up one DeWalt and walked away!
Apparently, he was buying by an established name brand that is now mostly foreign made.
Irwin has foreign made items, but I ALWAYS take the time to check and buy American made when I can.
IMO--vast majority of people just don't care or don't have the time to check.

There was never a town named to sell cheap Japanese products in the USA . Such products would be confiscated by US Customs upon entering the port. Google it yourself.

BEG TO DIFFER.

I've seen the stuff offloaded from the ships in L.A. Harbor, I've seen the "products" with the "Made In USA" (NO Decimals) in the stores, AND there was even a write-up about it in the Los Angeles Newspapers!

If you are relying on snopes dot com that is a mistake. Snopes is not exactly accurate, or truthful.

1948CaseVAI;

What is your basis for saying Snopes is not exactly accurate, or truthful? If it's from the statements made in an email in Repost (a blog whose stated purpose is to counter the abundant bias of the Huffington Post), or any one of the hundreds of times that information has been repeated online (repeating one source multiple times is the online definition of confirmation to many people), then you'd better do more research. The Mikkelsons do extensive research on any question they investigate, they cite their sources, and their findings do not exhibit a abundant orientation (unless you believe that trying to discover the truth is a abundant trait---but I'll bet you don't think that.) The Mikkelsons recommend---and this is something I've read several times from them---that nobody should rely on them, or anyone else, as a single source of information.

Here it is ,Usa in Japan , courtesy of Google maps , can't find Sheffield though , perhaps my 6th grade teacher fell for an urban myth .

If somebody wanted to import bogus "made in USA" products, they wouldn't bother going to the trouble of building a city to do it. And what the heck do you mean by "no decimals"?

How anyone can read some of their "findings" and not ee a clear bias is beyond me.

Good luck on Customs stepping in without a Federal Court order and then good luck on obtaining a Federal Court order against an item made in a country with a trade agreement, for that type of violation. Then check out the costs to even get to a Federal court.

I do the same. Refuse to buy foreign goods unless there is nothing else available. I make my feelings known on YT and generally get criticized for it. Most people don't care where their purchases originate but are the first criticize big business for shipping jobs overseas. I guess buying domestic and not shopping at Harbor Freight only applies to the other guy.

Customs is opening containers at the ports everyday looking for bootleg products. The ones they don't open get x-rayed.

I understand that but they sure didn't stop the violation of copying my product even after filing a complaint. I was told by my congressman that I would have to get a Federal Court order. I was told by the suggested lawyer that my volume would not cover the cost. Before I had spent over 6,000.00 I was told they would get customs to hold all copied product at the port.

Let's have some examples.

Have you considered the possibility of confirmation bias? For those who are not familiar with the term, it's the tendency all of us have to search for or interpret information in a way that confirms beliefs we already hold, and to discount or ignore information that challenges our beliefs.

Stan

(quoted from post at 06:18:42 02/28/15) Dr Walt , That story is pure folklore . There was never such a town in Japan.
No. That is a true story... even if there was no town named Usa. Japanese or American unscrupulous businessmen would sell crap stuffs stamped USA but was made in Nihon. I bought stuff with that stamp, the USA was in a circle.

Stan I had a long list of examples but this site won't let me use names of politicians that are included in that list. I've tried re wording it several times and I'm done with it. Suffice it to say that when you ignore rapes, murders, first hand accounts of events and won't even touch on other crimes...it doesn't breed confidence.

They are libs- period. Yes, they have a great business and are making lots of money and they have the pattern down on how to parse things in the best or worse possible light. If you wish to believe them, fine. I'll go elsewhere for confirmation before buying their stories, or Wikipedias for that matter.

Hi Bret;

Thanks for taking the time to try---even if it didn't work. My email is open. Would you mind sending me an empty email just to make sure that works before putting any more time into this?

I use Wikipedia all the time, and Snopes not too much. I imagine I'm as vulnerable to confirmation bias, not to mention lazy thinking, as the next person. But I'd like to know if sources of information I trust are not actually trustworthy. I'm less inclined than ever to argue with anybody about their beliefs and opinions, but I'm very interested in basing my actions and decisions on accurate information.

Stan

So the stuff was offloaded and not inside containers? And the Port Auihority just let you hang out on the wharf all day just checkin'things out?. What newspaper?

Stan, go through and read some stuff on the guy that was Prez back in the 90's and his wife, the blue dress guy. Then compare that to what you can find documented elsewhere. I've found things that defy news reports and even interviews I saw at the time.mNot all of what they deem false or true is the opposite, but there is enough slant to make me untrusting of their opinions. That's what their conclusions are- opinion. I'll stick with looking the information up myself thanks.
