Battery Chargers/ Maintainers

Some battery chargers/ maintainers claim to desulferize. Is there any evidence that this works and does ant good. Will they bring back a battery

They work, but won't bring them back from the dead. They only slow down the dying process. Batteries won't last forever. My oldest mower battery is a 2007.

If you have 20 or more batteries, get one. I have a batteryminder 12248. It has never damaged a battery. Can't say that about other chargers, like my 15 amp crapsmans that doesn't always shut off.
I would get another one if this one dies.

That $30.oo one from Wallymart works just DANDY!! I bought one a couple of months ago and it self detects 6vot or 12volt and away it goes! Stops when done auto cycles to desulfate. Wonder charger? Get one!

Yes, I used a little BatteryMINDer charger/ desulfator / maintainer to restore a severely sulfated big (4D?)
I bought a rolled over (It killed the driver) Hough 30B payloader.
It laid upside down for several hours and drained most of the electrolyte out of the battery cells, so the battery plates were exposed to air and remained that way for near two years in the salvage yard.

We hated to throw that big expensive battery away without even trying to save it, so we bought new electrolyte and refilled it, then tried to recharge it. Couldnt get it to take a charge, had a conventional 10 amp charger on it for 2 days and could not get the charger ammeter to come off 0.
I then put the little BatteryMINDer charger / desulfator on it to see if it could any better.
After 2 days it would make the solenoid chatter, after 4 days, it would crank for a couple seconds.
After a week it would crank the engine for 2-3 turns. After another week, it would start the diesel engine. After a month is would crank long enough to I fear, burn the starter up.

I put that little 1.3 amp charger / desulfator / maintainer. back on that battery every time it was parked for the next several months to let it finish the months long desulfate job.
We used that battery for another 3 years.

If the battery has a shorted cell or is many years old and worn out, a desulfator will not bring the dead back to life.
If it is an otherwise sound battery that has been neglected and allowed to sulfate, then yes, given enough time, the sulfation can be removed by one of those little devices.

It is true the little guys can revitalize tired batteries but their real worth is realized by using them on batteries from the day battery is new. I have two BatteryMinders, one almost 15 years old that stay in use more than 75% of the time. Lites tell you when charging, when at 85% or more full charge, when in maintain mode and if there is a problem with battery after connected several hours. Even though a vehicle was just parked after running for hours,it normally takes a few hours to reach 100% charge. Ridding mowers, atvs and tractors often show less than 85% when parked. I feel safe in saying batteries last me twice as long as people who don't use maintainers. The cables have a two prong connector for switching from clamps to rings. I installed mating connectors on all vehicles so cable plugs in rather than raising hood to clmap to battery.

I use the Deltran Battery Tender ( come in both 6v or 12v) and a Sears battery maintainer that charges 6 and 12 volt.I also have the regular charger that will charge up to 10 amps. With the little battery tender amd maintainer I can get 6 to 7 years out of those one year garden tractor battiers.
