Digital camera

I have a Samsung digital camera Digimax V4. It is 4 megapixels and has always done a fine job. Until last night. It says "bad card" and the card worked before. I put in a new set of batteries and another new card and it still does the same. Any ideas?

If the camera cannot read the card, that is the readout you get. Move to the new times and pick up a new one. Prices are WAY down and you get so much camera. I Have Canon and Nikon cameras but will tell you to look at the Nikon cool pix cameras. The top ones can be found in the $300.oo area and are 16mp!!! The three trator pics I posted last week of the Mc cormic Deering in the weeds is what you can get. When you post on here it gets dumbed down by almost 60%. Look at that picture and make it that much better. New cameras have stableizers in the lense systems auto sharpen and a bunch of other things. Go shopping and have fun.

YUP. Most likely a bent or worn contact strip for the card. Happens a lot on cell phones when you plug in to charge them. Wears out the little metal contacts. Same with the card readers. Also if you accidently try to plug the card in backwards they can get bent up. Have fun shopping! Best buy has all kinds but I would say the more bucks the better the camera and higher MP pictures. Also low light level photos. My real high end cameras can shoot in moon light with little trouble. Did you see the lunar eqlips shots I posted back in October? Nikon Cool Pix pocket camera. These shot were from this past summer at the local yard. You can also shoot some real AWSOME video too.

Hello johnlobb,

Make sure you have a good card. Try it in some other reader. If the inside contacts look straight, then they may be dirty. Try some alcohol and a cu tip. Also the contacts can sometimes come to life by inserting and removing the card many times. This method works for video games cartridges. Try it you got nothing to lose,

Guido.

Try formating the card. With the card in the camera go into the menu system and find "format card" or some such wording. It will say something like are you sure you want to format the card! select yes and do it. Might work for you. If not try try the other card you have. Sometimes you'll get lucky.

I've tried formatting the card and got some alcohol and a q tip and cleaned the contacts on the chip but cannot get the q tip into the narrow slot the card goes in. Still not working.

When my HP digital had issues, I used it without a card. Camera finally died.
I got a cheap new Nikon coolpix 8M for $69 off ebay. Uses 2 AA, which don't last very long, so I bought rechargeable batteries.

Good camera, bigger screen than old HP. Easy to down load on computer.

Don't really think you can fix digitals, pitch it and get a replacement.

Hello johnlobb,

If the card is good you may have to bite the bullet and get another one. Just for kiks remove the battery from the camera, wait one minute and reinstall the batteries, it may rebut and forget the error,

Guido.

How big is the card. Some older cameras will not accept a 16, 32 or 64gb card. You may need a 4, 6 or 8gb card for it to work.

Like Jeff said, it may be time to upgrade. 4 megapixels means you have had it for a while. the new ones are all over 10 and still pretty inexpensive. My Cannon is 14.1 and was about $130 and has more bells and whistles than I can use.
Takes great photos and fits in my pocket. I take it on the job every day.
