So this goes back to the love joy coupler and hyd pump from a while back. The Koler engine had such a bad knock in it I told the guy that it would rattle apart before I even got the job done.
So yesterday he calls and has a brand new engine for it. So yesterday evening I messed wit hit for a bit and since it was almost dark stopped for the day. Today I go out and finish mounting the engine and the hyd pump with the love joy coupler between them Fire it up at a fast idle and set a piece of Green ash in it and the thing did not so much as kick in the gov. Spunb it up about half throttle and could not tell it had sped up by the way it did not vibrate

Great Rich. I split a load of black locust today with mine. Sure beats the heck out of how I used to split wood.
How bout a photo of what you built?

Only thing I would add is wear ear protection. Neighbor and I split sometimes and even a quiet engine will make your ears buzz after some time. He is half deaf any way but I am not. Did you use a Lovejoy of the same size or two different sizes? Send some pictures.

I did not build it. It was brought to me to fix. Has hyd tilt so you can split wood horizontal or vertical. Has a large cylinder on it about 4 or 5 foot long and about 6 inches in diameter. Big heavy H beam and sits on 15 inch tires. I do plan to take a few pictures before it leaves the place on Saturday.

Engine 1 inch shaft pump a 3/8 or so. As for noise that engine makes less noise then my old air compressor did

Doesn't it seem strange that the engine needs a 1" dia. shaft and the pump it runs only needs 3/8"?

Other thing I'll mention about using a splitter along with ear protection is to be aware of which way the breeze is blowing, don't want to be downwind for an extended time inhaling the exhaust.

Very common pump shaft size and also very common engine shaft size so nothing strange here on a home made splitter. Have a hyd pump that was on a ford tractor sitting here on the desk wit ha shaft of 3/8 maybe 7/16 but either way smaller then 1/2 inch

OLD,
Want to come to Terre Haute and try out your splitter and take home the wood?

It would probably split it but the last time I was in that area I lost a tire off the IH truck I was towing behind my Dodge Charger. But that was a good number of years ago

Hope you got the Lovejoy coupling lined up! they need to be within .002 both angular and offset. If they're right on they will run 5 years,if not they will destroy the spider within 24 hours.

Here's a pic of mine I built it back in 1985.I have had several motors on it threw the years I now run it off a twenty gallon pmp off the crankshaft plenty of power and speeding and a whole lot quiter

I built this splitter back in 1970's. I used a 10hp Tecumseh engine. I bought the control valve and two-stage pump from a dealer in MN. I used an 4-inch I-beam. I copied it off a Didier splitter I rented. Hal
PS: That's a Mercury Bobcat in the picture, my wife didn't like it since it squealed the tires easily with the V6 engine. I sold it later to a teenager.
