Well EVERYONE that helped me get the starter to work. I've finally got it to WORK !!! Gummed up bendix, 1/4 can of carb n choke cleaner, 1/4 can of brake clean amd some oil to smooth everything out and get the bendix to slide like leather sooled boots on ICE. It WORKS !!! ENGAGES like a new starter. Cranks the Chevy 235..Thanks for ALL THE HELP !!! Ive dragged cars from the bottom of canyons in the sandhills of Nebraska that have been sitting for twenty years and have NEVER had this problem with ANY starters like this one has caused. It needed a solenoid anyway as the old one didnt kick the bendix in like the new part..

I'm like you, I've never seen one gunked up to the point the bendix wouldn't engage like it should. Glad you got it all figured out.

Husker,I knew you could get it going,I had faith in ya.How does the engine run?Great I hope.

Den, i didnt get the engine to run very much. Just
know it fires now on clean good gas. Now clean the
fuel system out, change a few tires, get new
radiator hoses. A little cleanin then on to the
brakes. Heres a photo the day that i got it loaded
on the trailer. I knew it had to be something
STUPID SIMPLE. Finally, got it figured out !!!
Thanks AGAIN to everyone !! I about ready to throw
it in the scrap iron pile and buy another or wait
untill the small block gets done. Now, my boy and I
can finish getting it running. Heres a photo if
itll load.

NCwayne, when I first tore the starter apart the bendix didnt look filthy at all. Its not like it was soaked in oil and thrown in the dirt pile for the last ten years !!! Either way, starter and engine/trans rear end will get a update after I get all parts. Planning on a rebuilding a Chevy 350 which I have. Parts sourced will include A 12 bolt rear end,5-spd from a 4.3 chevy S-10, front disc brakes. All before the end of August so my youngest boy and I will take it to the Blackhills of South Dakota for Kool Deadwood Nights. Car Show, Ride through the hills. Good time If anybody wants to go !! They also have a website. Use Google for the proper site. Lots of fun in Historic Deadwood,SD. I live only a few hrs away from there.

Retired, Deadwood,SD is still a little gambeling town. But a lot of buseness have closed do to income. Still a good time to go. Take the wife there for our anniversary. Then we take the boys to the car show also. Close to home within a few hrs. Hopefully, I can have this pickup done by then with what I would like to do to it. Almost seven months time should be able to.

Thanks, going to make a nice little sleeper with a five spd and a 327 flat black paint front disk brakes amd highway friendly rear end. Hoping to cruise the asphalt at 65 and about 1700 rpm.

Husker,I was just thinking when I first saw the pic of the truck, hmm pretty good body, straight, and how well it would look with black primer and good wheels and tires with some big ehaust pipes coming out at an angle just in front of the rear tires.I like 327s I have 2 327s myself a 300 hp in my 63 SS Impala and a 375 hp327 that I have had many years put up in a small shed by my shop.

Nice truck. It looks like a good candidate for a clear coat over the patina. I guess that's the new big thing.

Den, if that 375/327 comes missin dont come lookin
under the hood of my 51 :) !! That'd make the 51
Chevy scoot !!

Husker, is that old Ford yours as well? I just purchased an old 70 F100 recently. Seems like they are gaining in popularity at least in this area as I have seen several drug out of the weeds lately. This one is going to be a lesson for me, as I have never owned a Ford pickup, but have never been without a Chevy truck since before I was old enough to own one of my own. Good looking old Chevy, and I do like the 235, as dad had a 59 with one in it and was the first pickup I ever drove, barely could reach the pedals driving in the hay fields while dad loaded the bales.
