Dust Collection while Wire Brushing

Just wondering if anyone has rigged up some way of
collecting dust while wire brushing parts with a
angle grinder/wire wheel. Shop vac with some type
of method to funnel in the flying dust?

I normally would do this outside, but winter in
Wisconsin keeps me in the heated shop.

I use an old box fan with a cheap furnace filter attached to the intake side. It works okay for small cleaning jobs and painting with a spray can.
The filter will catch a lot of the junk but I still wear a dust mask. HTH Jf

I know what you mean about Wisconsin Winters! I took an old squirrel cage fan from a furnace, built a box around all but one side that holds 2 each 1" furnace filters and mounted it to my ceiling. it works very well I am amazed how fast those filters get black. Mine is wired to a switch on the wall but I am sure a pull chain or switch on the box would work also. when i change my filters I discard the outer one, move the inner one out and only have to replace one at a time.

Not sure if you will see this reply. Which direction do you route the squirrel cage discharge for best air flow?

I have no solution for you as the dreck tends to get flung far and wide. Sort-of on topic, when cutting on the lathe or mill makes smoke, in winter I use square computer fans connected to motorhome sewer drain tubing to suck the fumes away from the work and outside through a dryer vent.

I was asking in which direction did he have the
fan blowing, to the ceiling, to the floor, side,
whatever.

longear,

I have seen squirrel cage fans in both directions of use.

Centripetal verses centrifugal, but I know the fan motors were dependent on the start capacitor.

Hope this does not muddy the waters...

I have it blowing across the room, but it is mounted very close to the ceiling, so for the most part it does not blow to much stuff around the shop.
