does any one know whats the rule on buying just one or two bolts..
...one store in town will sell me individual bolts, but the other
store says they charge 3 dollars to open a bag........dewy

my experience with Fastenal here in ky was not good they have a 25.oo minimum even if you only need one bolt I needed one bolt left hand thread-metric tough to find

we have 2 in Lincoln. both places are good to work with. I guess it depends on the each individual case. I buy both ways. usually much cheaper to buy the bag when dealing in normal everyday bolts. speciality bolts, now that's a different item!

X2 ! You can't beat TSC. One hardware store in town charges $0.25 for a washer. Meanwhile, I went to TSC to get hardware for my last fabrication and came home with a whole bag of Grade-8 hardware for $3.50.

Since I'm paying by the pound I usually toss in a few extra bolts, nuts and washers and on several occasions it has saved me another trip to the store.

Must be the policy of the manager. I've been to two stores next to me and they will both open the bag to sell me a single bolt.
However, I've special ordered some square-headed bolts (slow movers) where I had to take the exact amount that was in the bag.

Rual King is a lot better than TSC for bolts. I only use grade 2. RK has about half again as many sizes as TSC and TSC normal price is $2.19 a pound, RK normal price is $1.69 per pound. Last fall RK had them on sale for $1.49 per pound so I bought over 50 pounds that day. And you get a lot of 3/8" lock washers per pound (several hundred) and must have had 3# of them. Just one of the hay rakes I rebuild takes 64 3/8" x 2 1/2" bolts, nuts and lock washers for the teeth plus lots of 1/2" nuts and washers. It takes 16 3/8" x 3/4" bolts and RK carries them, TSC does not. Have 4 of those hay rakes to do this summer so you can see I need a lot of bolts.

Awhile back I drove 3 hours to get a tractor seat from the nearest Agri Supply. They have a huge selection of bolts buy the pound but where a little pricey. But the have larger diameter bolts, carry 7/16ths, and have a huge selection of metric bolts.

I ordered 8 square headed bolts for my JD H cultivator from Fastenal. Went to pick them up and was told I had to buy the whole box. I said "you didn't tell me that when I ordered them".
Fellow said "Oh, in that case, you can have the whole box for the price of 8".
I was pleased.

Our local Fastenal policy is you have to take a full bag or box only. Girl was complaining customers were ripping open bags and putting what they needed in their pockets. I asked her what they did with the open bags. She said they through them in the dumpster. Guy that was with me asked if we could go dumpster diving. With a smile, she said help yourself. We drove up to the dumpster. It was packed full of cardbroad. I told him I was not going to help him remove the cardboard to get who knows what. We then went to the local hardware store and bought what we needed.

Fastenal in hopkinsville ky has single bolts and if not mistake they are going with 5 pack but wont open 25pack any more.

I needed 6 fine thread bolts for the front rims on a Farmall 350. I went to Tacoma Screw, in Lacey, and got 6 grade#8 bolts along with lock washers, flat washers, and nuts, they were 5/8"x 2 3/4", Bill including tax was $19.79, and no hasseles.

I bout 4 bolts at the one here in Clarksville Tn this past Friday. Total charge was 64 cents. I gave them a dollar and walked out the door a happy man.

I've been into the one in McCook twice, got a couple metric nuts the first time, got a couple dozen little socket cap screws the second time, both times they opened up a bag and counted out what I needed.
