having a car shipped

I need to have car hauled from Mission TX to Fayetteville WV. It runs and drives. The best price I've got so far is $1260.00 on Uship.com. With the recent drop in the price of fuel. This sounds a bit high. Any suggestions about where else to look. or anything I could do to get the cost down a little. Not looking to get it done for nothing but I really cant afford to pay more than a grand right now

a pastor from Tennessee bought a 41 ford 1.5 ton truck from me a few years ago, he hired an independent trucker that advertised as (Another Man's Treasure) to pick it up here and deliver to him, not sure the cost. The guy travels the country with his rig, custom built car haul trailer, that is all he does. Maybe Google him, had a nice visit with him, seemed like a great guy.

I know people who have their car shipped home from Florida to Belleville Ontario so they don't have the long drive, they ride on the train with it and I think it is around$600. Might look into the possibility of train.

Could you book a really cheap flight there and drive it back? That is a 1550 mile one way haul, at $1260 it's $0.82 per loaded mile. I doubt that you could fly and drive it back for much less.

I tried to get my Subaru Impreza shipped from central New York to northern Michigan. 700 miles. Lowest price I got was $1500 and highest was $2800. I wish I could of found an old wino, sobered him up, and paid him to drive it up. Ended up I said the heck with it and sold the car in NY. Later I got a guy from Michigan to take a whole tractor-trailer load of stuff for me for a total price of $1500. A HUGE bargain as compared to the car shippers.

Thanks for the input, Looks like my only option is gonna be to ride the greyhound down there an drive it back. I've done it before just was a lot younger then.

One of the empoyees at ADOT retired and started his own business hauling cars around the country. He kept real busy - until that faulty heart valve caught up with him. Presume his widow sold that rig after he passed away.

I know that the airlines can really sock it to you on the cost of flying anywhere except from one major hub to another, but even so, don't just assume that the bus will be cheaper. At least check. I've been surprised to find how uncompetitive bus lines and railroads are compared to air travel---not to mention how grueling bus travel is. Another thing is, a person who isn't tied to a schedule is in a good position to take advantage of air travel bargains. Right off the bat you can get significantly cheaper tickets just by being able to schedule for cheap times a week or more out. I've also heard that you can get the best deal by being at the airport to buy an unsold seat right before the flight. That one you would definitely want to get some authenticated information about before investing any time, but it might be worth checking. It's just time at the keyboard, right?

There is a huge difference between shipping freight and shipping cars. Cars require special handling equipment for loading, unloading, and securing them in transit as well as protecting them from damage. A little chip in a shipping crate is not even noticed. A chip in the paint of a classic car is a catastrophe that costs a fortune to fix. I can easily see why is costs so much more to ship a car.

I sell old cars, trucks, and camp trailers that go all over the world. I recommend to my customers U-Ship, which is usually the cheapest available. I charge $2.50 per mile one-way and have racked up nearly 2000 miles this month. That's good pay.
