Engine/hyd pump love joy connector ??

So do you use one love joy connector or 2?? Finally got the Cub cadet drive pulley off today after breaking 5 or so drill bits drilling the Allen set out. Guess I'll make sure the engine runs well before I unbolt it and rotate it 180. As it sits it will be easy to mess with the carb if I need to once turned the carb will be in the back side of things so harder to get to

old,

Who the devil named that? Lovejoy, really?

Nearly unbelievable. Especially when you have to drill out the set screws.

D.

I do not remember for sure where but the serial number is also if I remember right on the left side of the engine block but with out going out and looking to find it on my BA I can not say exactly where

I had to drill out the Cub Cadet pulley hub set screws not a love joy connector set screw.

Lovejoys are sold by individual pieces. You will need two matching connectors and the corresponding rubber damper ring.

Being sold individually allows you to compensate for different shaft sizes. Just get one connector that will work on the crank, one for the pump shaft, and the rubber damper. Just make sure the lovejoys will spline up after you pick them for shaft sizes.

The company that makes them is LOVEJOY duh! We use them at work on the drive systems on the big dish washers. Kind of like a Xerox copy is from any photo copier now.

I've had to replace the Lovejoys a couple of times on my 42" snowblower. I found them at Graingers for about 1/10 of the cost at the dealer.

Every body is missing what I am asking. Very simple do I need to use more then one love joy connector plain and simple

just one pair and a rubber thingy which makes one assembly. So just one.

A "Lovejoy" coupling is a 3 piece coupling, one piece for each shaft, and the rubber/hard plastic star shaped center section. Any decent parts house should have the whole coupler in a box. We got ours from Grainger, but Napa had an off brand type that worked, and we sometimes got them from Motion Industries. Even your beloved Oreallys may be able to get them. Alignment has to be perfect, or itll eat the star shaped piece up.

Only one coupler should be needed. They are a three piece assembly. Don't try to use them like U-joints, they are only made for up to 2 degrees of misalignment or a very small offset between the shafts depending on the size of the coupler. The closer the shafts can be aligned, the smoother the coupler will run and the longer it will last.

Look up any manufacture's on-line catalog to get sizing and installation directions. Lovejoy is one brand.

Most often the pump is connected with only one lovejoy coupling. But remember, it will last longest if the two shafts are perfectly on centerline. The farther the shafts are out of alignment, the sooner the coupling will fail.

If you have either a long run or a lot of offset between the pump and engine, you may need a intermediate shaft with universals to couple the engine and pump.

Seem every body is missing the point. I know what a love joy coupling is and I know how they work So why can not any body answer a simple question 1 or 2 plain and simple.

1 coupling. As was mentioned, you can buy the individual pieces of the coupling if the shafts are 2 different sizes, but you only need 1 coupling.

depends on alignment and possible flexing of equipment. Using 2 Lovejoy connectors with a stub shaft gets a mini Chevy CV drive shaft coupler like on some pickups. You get possible different shaft size fit also. If engine and equipment have flex bush ing mounts or one isrubber mount and other is solid mount to frame the double Lovejoy coupling will last much longer than single unit. Other advantage is the canceling of vibration with slight angle- like the old matching of U joints on drive shafts. If you have any concerns about frame flex between the engine and pump or mounting is different- then see if space for 2 units or move one or the other unit out another couple inches. Double unit can be easier to mount sometimes. Had some fun with using them in a project- fit a 12 hp OHV Tecumseh engine in place of a 7 hp flathead Briggs in a Simplicity 700. RN.

Now that is the type of answer to helps. I have many things that had or have love joy connection and some used 1 and some 2 so that is why I asked if it was necessary to use 2.
