Starter Motor Problem

I have a Case 450 Crawler angle tilt dozer. Did several repairs on it and then tried to start it up. After a few sec of turning over, i heard a loud thump. Come to find out the housing that covers the starter gear broke off and is now in the flywheel housing. Any tips on getting that piece out?

Telescoping magnet , coat hanger. Are you lucky and
there is a cover on the top or bottom you could
remove ?

Magnet on a flexible shaft,or mechanical pick up fingers,coat hangar or oxyacetylene welding rod.

Borrow or hire a fibre optic inspection camera . The flexible probe isn't much thicker than a ballpoint pen and the chances of finding all the little extra bits bound to be in there are much higher .
