Keyless drill chuck

Do you use a keyless drill chuck?
How do you like it?

I have grown to hate mine because I can never keep the drill bits tight especially when drilling steel.
May be my drill bits are not sharp enough but it happens when I use a small wire wheel also.

Don't know that I have ever seen a cordless drill with a key chuck.
I have a Ridgid drill.
Could I change it over to a key chuck?

Sure hate to pull out the 1/2 drill and run a cord just cause this keyless chuck on the small drill is a piece of junk.

Thanks

My Dewalt 1/2 inch has a keyless chuck on it and the way I tighten it up is by grabbing it and spinning it up and that seems to work well most of the time

There are lots of lousy drill chucks, but you can get good ones by spending more money. Rohm, Albrecht, and Jacobs make some really good chucks, but you have to pay the premium price that comes with quality.

A little trick I learned to tighten a key-less chuck is put the forward button and the reverse button half way in the middle. Than you can really tighten the drill bit, cause it won't slip or burn your hand by using the motor. I hope you can understand....Jim in N.M.

I made a discovery a while back about my Maketia. After the chuck is tight, it will lock with a good hard twist by hand, running it down with the drill will not lock it.

I have a DeWalt 3/8 drill with a keyless chuck and so far have had no problems. I wanted a key chuck but almost all the new 3/8 drills are keyless.
