Sunex Tool Impact Sockets - Worth Buying???

Found a 13 piece set of 8 point deep impact sockets from 3/8" up through 1 1/8" on Amazon. Never have heard of Sunex Tools and have a feeling they are probably made in Asia someplace as there is no mention of country or origin. Does anyone know of this brand and would they be suitable for occasional use on square headed bolts and nuts we run across on these old tractors and implements? Thanks for any comments or suitable sources for this item if these are just cheap wanna-be tools, Hal.

I'm sure they would be fine for square head bolts. Square heads are typically low grade bolts, nearly impossible to round off, easy life for the sockets.

SK Tools, & Wright are made in the US. If You go to the company website of "Buzzard Gulch Tools" & look at the online catalog You will find several brands available. Amazon is probably cheaper though. But I like to know who I am buying from with something like that! Buzzard Gulch will be at the National Farm Machinery Show in Louisville next month. I bought some SK Tools from them last year, & they negotiate prices at the show.

I work on heavy equipment for a living, so my stuff routinely gets used hard. That said, I've got several sets of Sunex impact tools, in various drive types, that get used quite a bit. I've had most of the sets for close to 10 years and haven't broken anything yet.

I have a metric 1/2 drive set...deepwell...works great but I only use occasionally. They're better quality than other stuff and I know several mechanics who like them.

They have good reviews on Amazon . They appear to look like Made in USA type sockets [ they don';t have the cheap imported socket look]. They sell individual replacments of each. The only real negative was someone said the deep sockets are not machined out alot inside and limit the amount of stud the deeps will fit over, Everyone who reviewed liked the price . Some were pro's using them on brand name powerful impacts without problems.

Twenty years or so ago a tool truck used to stop every couple weeks, he sold a lot of the Sunex stuff and I never heard any complaints about it, nobody broke any more of them than Snap on or Mac.

Thanks for the responses and from the several positive responses that even though imported they would most likely be suitable for occasional use. Since I don't have an immediate need for an 8 point deep impact set I think I'll wait and see if an USA made set pops up somewhere first for a reasonable price as that would be preferred, Hal.

used them for over 20 years in the tire shop, impact sockets, used them constantly, don't ever remember breaking any, just wore them out from constant use. Would buy them again.

I have used them since the early 90's daily... I have wore out a few and broke just one and that was today... It was a 8MM deep 3/8 drive impact socket... I have broke my share of snap-on 8MM 5/16 sockets and know asking a 8mm 5/16 socket to live on a impact is is asking for trouble... Every Sunnex tool I own has performed as good are out performed all the other top brands I own...

And 8 poinr does not work well on square items, you need a 4 point socket and last summer I found some at a tractor show, only 4 sockets but it is a start as most of what I work on orignally used was square headed nuts and after 60 years hard to get off and then some are slightly oversize so a 12 point that is supposed to work will not slip on the nut. A 4 point socket can be slightly loose on that nut and still work fine.

I have a set of 4 point regular impact sockets from 3/8" up through 15/16" (in 1/16" increments) along with an 8 point 1" socket all 1/2" drive. This thread was about deep sockets as I saw a couple individual 8 point ones for sale on eBay and got to looking for a set but there is not much out there except the Sunex brand I found and then they were 8 point ones. You are correct in that 4 points are what is really required like my regular set. I was fortunate enough to pick them up at a farm auction as they were in an old green propane torch kit metal box along with some other tool items. By the time they sold most everyone had left and things were generally selling for an opening bid. No one else bid and I think I got the whole box for $5. I have used them several times over the past 10 years or so and found them very useful, Hal.
