Hello,

We got one in the family! One of the boys got the honor from the school. We are all very proud and happy for him. Memories in the making.......

Guido.

You're not getting much traction here...

What "honor from the school" Guido? Honor Roll? Cheerleading squad? Drum major? Honor of first to be expelled? Or maybe he's a little older and on the dean's list?

A niece was the first in my family to never graduate from high school. Not a typical dropout, she's now got a B.A. from Wesleyan U.

I was the first to take, and fail, ROTC.

Hello VaTom,

It is all new to me. Unsung hero for baseball, football, and school unsung hero all the his senior year?. The school presented him with his jersey framed. The Boy was Vale Dictorian? in 8Th grade. He has straight a's in the AP program. Quarterback of the football team. Referee for little league. I thought American people would no the programs. No such thing in the old country!

Guido.

Hello sotxbill,

He has been inducted in the National Honor Society, as a junior and as a senior. Quarter back of the football team. Second highest scorer for that team. Academically, He was ranked 2nd last I heard, but he may have slipped a few slots. The recognition awards are called Unsung Hero awards, all three this year. I'll have to ask what they really are. Never heard of them before he got them.........

Guido.

Congratulations Guido. School awards have been around forever here, even I received a few. "Unsung hero" is new to me, but I'm never around anything high school.

It's also an oxymoron. There's nothing "unsung" about those awards, that's the whole point of awarding them. I gather this new (to me) award is to honor those who have been multiply-honored.

Has he decided which school he wants to attend next fall? Sounds like he should have good choices. I vaguely remember the excitement of that time, trying to decide which school sounded best for me.

Hello 1948ChaseVAI,

WE are! He is going to be a very productive
member of society,

Guido.

Hello VaTom,

Unsung, unrecognized? He has been accepted at Princeton in New Jersey, with a least 1/2 the tuition. Not sure about the other collages. He has a full ride in a college close to his home, he may go there. WE hope he will be an High School Math Teacher,

Guido.

Sounds great. If your hopes are successful, I hope he'll be far better than the high school math teachers I had. Not entirely their fault, but I lost my engineering scholarship my first year.

Calculus in high school? Not in mine, I was ill-prepared. 30% of my freshman engineering class were valedictorians. I was not. Ended up getting what I needed at a less-prestigious state university.

Best of luck to him.

congrats to your son...and you.
Been a long time, but I remember similar awards in various sports.
Can't remember what they were called in football,
but in basketball, at my school, it was the '6th man' award.
Given to the bench man that was not quite good enough to take a starters position, but could step in at ANY position without the team missing a beat.
very valuable player.

Hello VaTom,

Thanks! I'm sure he has been taking college courses. He has way too much confidence and drive. He has been doing fine and will continue to do so......

Guido.

Hello nonewparts,

Thank you. Its my grandson. The award is really for the best and all around most valuable player. What is amazing to me is that he got the award 3 times in his senior year,

Guido.

Hi Guido;

Tell your grandson congratulations for me. He is clearly an exceptional person.

It's hard to overstate the employment value of an Ivy League education, although Princeton might be a bit of overkill for a high school math teaching position. But teachers nowadays are typically getting out of teaching after four or five years, so maybe it would be useful for the next thing. If a scholarship would pay 1/2 of your grandson's costs at Princeton, that would leave about $30,000 a year for the family to come up with. That's great if you've got it, but it makes a full ride at a state college look pretty darn good.

Stan

Hello Stan in Oly,WA,

He told me that he will probably be be going to the college close to his home. Smart kid! Home every night. 30K is about right for Princeton for him as well. He scored high on his SAT's and we know that he'll succeed in any field he chooses.
