Read previous post about shop heaters and figured I would get a price- $ 2,500 for a 50,000 btu propane heater not including electric--!!!!!!!!!!

I just noticed Northern Tool has 81% efficient gas heaters for 450 to 500 bucks, 50k btu and 80k btu. 4" vent sold separately.

Look on Craigslist under appliances and search for Furnace. Many used furnaces from homes there. Many are newer ones with the PVC pipe for exhaust. Would work great in a garage or shop.

I got a catalytic unvented unit about nine years ago. It cost about $250 and I installed it myself. I love it.

I think the ideal setup for a shop would be one of those "in-the-wall" units like is used in motels and hotels. Heat and air conditioning all in one unit.

I have a couple of those Amana "Motel units" in my building. Heat is maximum 5000 watt on high and on 230v wiring. One of them is 15 years old and runs some every day of the year. Been repaired once by local appliance store.
I paid about $600 for the second one, internet, in 2006.
6000 cubic feet is about max for one.
