I'm thinking they will be my next tool.....er I mean toy. Blade 350 or Parrot AR. Does anyone have one?

I live in hope that Australia will legalise the shooting of these things in the same way that one particular state in the USA has .

To me they should be out lawed other then being used on your own land. Spying on a neighbor etc should be a class A felony. And that should also include law enforcement unless they have a warrant

Not all of them- single shot rifles and double barrel shotguns still allowed I think. SO, think 'drone skeet'. RN

What ever happened to the term...PRIVATE PROPERTY?

Even law enforcement must only approach a private property by the "front door", unless in pursuit of a suspected felon.

I understand the FAA is cooperating in their use as long as the drone stays under 400 feet above the ground, and, outta the vicinity of controlled airspace around airports.

Like everything else, once something is approved for military use, it becomes a big business to the public.

Good. Fly it over my place. I can snipe that thing out of the sky and likely you will never even know what happened to it. I have enough trouble with hot air balloons dipping over the place and scaring the crud out of the animals. It astounds me what people think is appropriate these days. I'll treat your drone the way I treat your dog. Keep it on your own property. You get one warning...then it disappears.

What are you intending to use it for? I have seen them used for checking crops and livestock. However if in a town area might be trouble. joe

Holy cow!! What a firestorm; nine replies and not one answered my question. The "anti" attitude is alive and well. Seriously nobody is more pro property rights than I am. We have 150 acres and I'm getting old so unable to cover the ground like I use to; thought maybe a drone would be useful.

Agree. I think it would be fun and you could get some great photos. Wonder how many of you have tried shooting down those pesky satellites that have taken photos of every inch of your property and made it available for everyone.
I wouldn't fly over others property without permission.

A piece in the farm paper is saying,FAA is requiring a Pilot license to be able to fly one period. So that is a BIG idem.

Eventually, I hope, the STATES will require some sorta of regristration number and the owners will also have to be registered with the STATE.

I have recently read of all the "near misses" reported by airliners and other aircraft.

Indeed, it will probably take a catostrophic event to make people wake up to the potential hazards.

(quoted from post at 22:48:33 01/08/15) How they going to do that? I thought Australia
outlawed guns.

Only semi automatic weapons are completely banned for civilian use .Bolt action rifles with up to 5 shot magazines and single and double barreled shotguns are still legal for licensed owners .

This occurred not far from where I live .

Not only was her privacy violated the resulting photograph was put on a billboard advertising the sale of the property next door .
We have them flying all over the place since Christmas . Thieves use them to scout homes and rural properties without ever having to trespass and so are immune from prosecution. They are a vile and dangerous tool when used by the wrong hands .

Yeah, I kinda went off the deep end with that one! I could see where they could be fun to fly but it is still going to be a problem. Using it to check on your place is OK but I think a quick drive around on the UTV would be better. I can never condone an overflight of other folks property with a camera. I am sick of neighbors who think I am their private peep show.

Bonnan,
I have no answer to your pose either, but like you, many of my posts go sideways. People get completely off topic. Guess we get what we pay for.

Bonnan,
I got the 350QX3 for Christmas. Bought the AP combo so the camera was included--all ready to go right outta the box! It's great! I've flown about a half dozen times (Michigan weather went to crap). They are GPS guided and have several different modes from "almost flies itself" to flips and aerobatic maneuvers. Don't listen to all the BS that's being posted. You don't need a license from the gov't to own one. Go to a HOBBY SHOP and pick one up. Lots of online forums with good info. (Helifreak.com & RCGroups.com are a couple. Read the manual, follow the rules, you'll be fine. Email if you want more info!

As long as you stay over your own land I can't imagine ever getting in trouble. I think about the only way you might get in trouble is if you had a neighbor that was out to get you.

That is simply not true. I intend to get one as soon as I can afford it and it looks like it will be a lot of fun.

As long as you are not flying it commercially the FAA requires you to stay under 400 feet and a minimum distance from a licensed airport - same rules as for RC airplanes (which I flew for many years).

I don't intend to intentionally bother anyone else, just like I don't bother anyone with my model planes.
