OT: Where do you live?

Stan in Oly, WA

I'd bet that I'm not the only person on this forum who would be interested to know where other members live. After thinking about it for the past hour, I can't come up with a way that it would pose an internet security or personal safety issue. So, where do you live? It would be nice if you would specify at least down to the county level (or the geographical area of the county if you live in a large county, like those in Arizona). You can think of some equivalent locator if you live in another country, or a state with something other than counties.

Sometimes somebody will make a comment about where they live and I am interested enough that I would like to use Google Images to see pictures of that part of the country. But it doesn't really narrow it down very much if you say you live in E Tennessee, or NE Arizona. Either of those descriptions covers a lot of territory.

That's what I'm hoping, Chuck. I don't know why I haven't seen it except that Tool Talk is the only forum on this site that I participate in. Not much time ever goes by that I don't check in on this forum, though.

Stan

I agree guys, I see some members location in profile, but when I joined a few months ago it asks for it but will not post location.
I would also like to know where they are at, may be a neighbor just down the road. I see where some guys have a get together in some areas, might be interesting to do that here too if we knew who is in a specific area.

Ah yes we go to the dentist in Swanton. We are in southern Henry county. First time I can remember going to Swanton, Dad went to A. D. Baker for some tractor parts, I don't think I was in school yet.

Most people already know that I live in Missouri the Lake of the Ozarks area but I'll post it again

How unusual! Back in the early sixties we had several guys from Swanton who would come to our ranch in Wyoming every fall for deer hunting. The last year they came out I got to take the train back to Toledo. They came to the train station and picked me up early in the morning and I spent three weeks in Swanton visiting with them. Would like to go back but I doubt if I ever will.

Outside Moscow, Idaho. Hideously ugly, but after 20 years I'm learning to deal with it.

If you use the modern version of this forum, you can fill out your profile and include where you live. It will appear directly under your handle. Right there for all the forum members to see. Come on guys, step right into the 21st century.

Guys, The Fun and Sun Capital of the World .... South Central Texas!

The thumb knuckle(a large bump out into the lake) of Wisconsin. Not in the thumb but a few counties south (I'm in Manitowoc Co.) About 3-5 miles as a crow flies from the shore.

That would be okay (if it worked, as some people have already said it doesn't always) if my purpose was to let others here know where I live rather than to find out where they do. But the Memberlist can't be narrowed down to only this forum, it's 4448 pages long, 25 names per page, and less than 1 person per page, on average, lists their location. Given those problems, asking the people on this forum to say where they live seemed more efficient. Old technology can be preferable to new technology when the new technology won't do what you need.

Stan

But I know you're proud of it Rich, so I'm sure you don't mind being asked again. Anyway, it's always nice to hear from you.

Jake,

There used to be quite a group of amateurs

red lion.
Are you a member of hilltop transmitting asoc
in the old school house back toward felton ?

george was k3gjj way back when.

I don't sweat the whole internet security thing. Knowing where I live is not going to give away much! Heck, I am one of those guys who will go out of his way to meet forum folk!

Livingston County, MI

What would be nice the next time this comes up would be for each of us to scroll down the list and enter our address after the previous person from your state so the states would be grouped together. That way when I cross the country and break down I'll know who to call for help. I'm not telling where I live. You figure it out.

Dave, when I made this same suggestion a few years back, some Chicken Little type was so eager to show how dangerous it was that he posted a Google Earth overhead shot of my house (I don't think street level views were available then, but anyway, he didn't post one). A few good people on this site got on his case for being such a jerk, and I posted my street address and phone number to let him see how worried I was. Those things were a matter of public record then, and they still are. If someone wants to involve me in a Ponzi scheme or cheat me through fraudulent online marketing, they're going to need better information than that.

And yeah, I'd like to meet people from this forum, too.

Stan

Only reason I am proud of it is that I did something one of my school teachers said I would never do. Back in the day I was asked want I wanted to do when I grew up and I said farm and he told me I would never have the $$ to do so but hey that is what I do so guess he was wrong. Wish O knew how to find Mr. Fry and tell him he was wrong

With very little info, you could go to my county home page, pull up my property, what it's worth, aerial view and ground level pics too.

That's a little scarey, don't you think? Especially for some like cops, teachers, judges. There might be some blocks put in place for some.

Keokuk county in SE Iowa, I don't post much just lurk in the background. The cheesy username comes from my pedal tractor addiction.

Elephant Butte Lake, New Mexico From Macedonia Ohio came out here in 1974 and should have come here ten yrs. before !!!! Jim in N.M.

Hope you could too but you just might have out lived him and that should be enough for Mr Fry!

Had a Teacher tell me once I would never amount to any thing years later he is asking for my help for a project he was doing.

Yep mist of that with enough info can be had just by walking into a court house. What I think is bad is that you can go in and check who owns a piece of land etc and not have to tell them who you are etc.

I can say back at my dads funeral I had a man walk up to me and shake my hand. Till he told me who he was I did not know him from Adam but he knew me and knew what schools I had started kinder garden in and what schools I went to for a year or 2 after. He was the principal of my first 3-5 years of school

5 miles west of Pine City Mn, sw corner of pine co. and on the east side of pokegema lake. Just about exactly 1/2 way between Minneapolis and Duluth.

It worked for me, and obviously it worked for several others on this forum.

Oh, and for any of you who are worried about the security thing, it has already been breached. Your IP location is easily traceable, and once that is know, you can go to Google Earth, enter your address, and zero in on your house, farm, whatever for a birds eye view, maybe even a 360 degree eye level walk around.

Just outside a little fart of a town called Ft. Jones, Ca(ugh). Just about 30 miles south of the Oregon border, and west of I-5.

Also known as the State of Jefferson!

You know, if everybody would just complete their profile on modern then all anyone would have to do is go to modern and see. Just my thoughts, Keith

I don't know, Rich, but I think most Missourians are proud of being from there. The few Missourians I've known have been people who seemed to know their own minds better than most. I'm impressed, for instance, by how you are able to stay calm in an argument that would have had many people ranting to the point of getting the whole topic deleted.

Stan

Well I am not form Missouri by the way. I was born in Alabama but have lived all over the U.S. By the time I was 5 years old I had lived in more cities/towns then I was old. Almost never lived in any town more then 2-6 years. Most only 2 or 3 years then moved to some other state. Missouri is the only state I have lived in for very long and in July I will have been here for 35 years. But sad how bad thing have gotten in that time

But I might be in the ground for a long time before that gets done, whereas, sixty people have already responded since I posted the question less than five hours ago. By the way, you didn't mention where you live. I'm guessing you expect me to go to your Modern View profile to find out.

A friend and neighbor of mine brings farm machinery east at least once a year. Often it comes from Edon. He is also friends with Reitzels.

Nice to see a few fellow Canadians on site, but I live closer to the fellows in Michigan. I'm in Southern Ontario, on the east shore of Lake Huron about 100 miles west of Toronto. Ben

Sorry guys, that is not Gods Country, you need to go a little further north to where Leinenkugel's is brewed along the Chippewa River,

Lot of sky in that picture. You ought to have some kind of catchy name for it like, I don't know, maybe large sky place, or something like that.

Seriously, it's beautiful.

I'm from the metropolis known as Maybee, MI (Monroe County), where the tallest structures in town are the grain elevator. water tower, and church steeple. I see a few folks in the now 9 pages that aren't too awful far from my location.

As for being worried posting my location.. I use my real name as my handle, and I've sold a lot of straw and red tractor parts outta my barn. I figure there isn't any sense in hiding.. Seems like I always heard growing up "If ya gotta hide ya must be up to no good" (or something to that extent).

A couple from Chehalis, WA bought a small resort at Big Arm as a retirement project- Mrs. and I spent some time there. Great country. I especially liked the Whitefish/Kalispell area.

I live in Burnsville about two miles south and west of the Burnsville center and I believe ultradog lives just south of you in Columbia Heights

That's interesting, Richard. In '72 my wife and I moved to your area with several other families from Texas to try to farm some land that had been developed by TXI. We were at Suncites, Star Route, Pearce. The settlement had a church and a parts house as I recall. Irrigation engines were powered by natural gas. We learned we could not hope to get into a profitable situation so we scurried back to Texas before the end of that year, but we sure liked the area and the people. We went back on a family vacation ten years later, and the land we had farmed had gone back to its original appearance- desert. Local folks said fuel costs made pumping water too costly to be practical. Have things improved, or is that area used just as a retirement haven?

I drive by Reitzel's business four times a day at least. One of the Reitzels are running plastic parts in my plastic factory. They loaded out a semi here yesterday. My one Grand Son hauls some farm equipment for them when they get behind. They handle a bunch of big combines and tractors.

Hey Ron we might be neighbors, I live just south and west of the Burnsville Center, or due west of Buck Hill. But Lakeville takes in a very big area so maybe not.

Yes Columbia Heights.
There are enough of us around here that we ought to get together for a Saturday morning coffee or breakfast sometime.
My email is open if someone wants to give it a try.

I wet to the show there was a lot of nice looking tractors there. My dad & FIL both worked at the Allis Chalmers LaPorte Works. Dad retired in 1976 with 38 years and FIL retired with 32 years. He had no choice they closed the doors in 1983.

I used to live in Asbury, NJ -- about 20 minutes from Flemington.

Now I'm in upstate South Carolina, about midway between Greenwood and Greenville.

I was stationed at Ft. Wolters for W.O. flight training in 1969. That isn't far from where you are now by Texas standards. Until I looked at a map a few minutes ago, I actually thought it was closer than that because I thought it was NE of Dallas/Ft. Worth, not NW. With that kind of sense of direction, it's probably a good thing I opted out of the flight program early on. Then, that gave me the chance to learn to drive an M-60 tank, which I found quite different from a helicopter.

Paris Springs, Missouri. I just started reading this site one day and now I have 7 tractors 67 acres and cows. I am not sure how this happened.

About 11 miles northeast of Muscatine, Iowa, on the Cedar River. Yes it floods, and when it floods, we go to Vegas! River was half open yesterday, fully frozen today.

There are two churches across from Buck Hill. Our Boy scout troop 261 met at the church farther south.
As for meeting what do you have in mind? My wife has Alzheimer, and I am restricted somewhat.

Hi Fatamus;

It's interesting and it's beautiful, but it's not altogether clear what it is. The apparent relationship to the fence line along the right makes it appear to be too low to be a roof, but maybe that's an illusion of camera perspective. Would that be the warm part of Alaska, or is that part further south?

Stan

Washington County, City of Washington,Iowa Our city celebrated our 175th last year with over 175 tractors in a parade.

I agree with many of the comments . . . having some idea of where a person lives would make things more interesting! Nothing worse than someone commenting about their weather when you have no idea where they are!
