i have a Wright G.S.5020A sawzall and want to bypass points with an ignition module.I'm told it won't work with Koeler'K'series
engines with magneto . how do i find out if my saw is one of these?

I have NO idea what your saw is powered by, but it's a 2-cycle and the Kohler "K" series are 4-cycle engines.

Probably a Power Products engine. They were used on a lot of saws of that era: Lombard, Mono. Barker, David Bradley.
I think Power products engines were used on a lot of tampers.

In answer to your question, I've got an old Wright saw sitting in the shop, and unless the engine on yours is a heck of a lot different than the one on mine, I can say that it's definitely not a Kohler K series engine.

I haven't done anything to the one I picked up, to know for sure, but I read somewhere that the saws don't even have a conventional crankshaft setup like most engines do. Basically the piston works back and forth against spring force to give the blade the reciprocating motion they are known for.

That said, I did a search and found one conversation on the saws on a chainsaw collector board. You might get some better info from the guys that specialize in messing with them. Good luck.

Google " Nova II 31-8786 " transistorized Ignition Module, from www.mfgsupply.com › Small Engine should work..
