Welding is not always the answer.

Sometimes when welding goes wrong you have to step back and go mechanical . As soon as I touched the MIG to the bulb socket on the lowest setting Oops Blowout. The other pic is the next $5.00 auto parts store socket held in by a small machined bracket. The same hole that has the pinch bolt has the mounting bolt countersunk in back. This is for a 49 Buick tail light on a 71 Harley. The backing plate is MIG welded 18 gauge which works fine on the lowest setting.

I am not the ultra dog, but I have soldered sheet
metal to copper radiators and put lead on a
totally sheet metal joint. We used what is called
tinning compound. It is most likely hard to find
now, but radiator shops get it some where. You
have to use the lead based solder.
