Did you get any tools for Christmas?

I bought myself a 3/8 ratchet set with some "different" sockets at Lowes that were marked down from $30 to $10. I just needed the ratchet, but might use the sockets on something someday.

It looks like the local Lowes and HD stores aren't going to have as many tools left to mark down as they did last year.

I managed to buy myself an English 'Britool' tool kit as sold for farmers and mechanics to use on Ferguson tractors . These are difficult to find in Australia , most tools in AF were made by the Siddons tool company under the name of 'Sidchrome' .
Not the biggest or most comprehensive kit available but it was one endorsed by the Ferguson company . Can't wait to use it on my '52 TEA20 and '57 Grey and Gold FE35.

Charles:

Are the sockets SAE, Metric, or British Standard ?

PS: MERRY CHRISTMAS & HAPPY HOLIDAYS

Vega pro 50 table saw fence. I couldn't justify a cabinet saw; found a good ol' Craftsman (Emerson) cast iron top, siliconized steel motor. The fences lacked, so Santa brought me the good fence.

I gave tools as gifts. My son and SIL got 18v dewalt 2 pk, 1/2 drill and 1/4 impact, Li batteries. Now they won't have to borrow mine. Both know just how great the 1/4 impact is and was wanting one. I also gave them a set of 1/4 impact nut drivers and screwdrivers. Boy also needed an inch=# torque wrench.

Santa just got me shot gun shells and clay pigeons.

Does anyone know how to properly cook clays?

Didn't get any, but got to use some I already had.(Had to put a cartridge in the bathroom sink faucet) MERRY CHRISTMAS !

I didn't get ant tools but I got my 11 year old grandson a decent set of sockets. They are not Snap On but they are Mastercraft from Canadian Tire (Sears quality). He is starting to mess with his ATV and he knows how to tighten the drive chain and set up any loose bolts etc. , so I figured it was time. He hasn't arrived yet but I think he will like it when he opens it.

Kids bought me a auto dark welding hood and wifey got me a Werner 5 foot podium ladder.Oldest son and I bought ourselves a Millematic 252 Mig but it isn't here yet.

MERRY CHRISTMAS

I love this "I got for myself line".

While we are on the subject, I got a saw chain sharpener while Northern Tool had them on sale.

Merry Christmas everyone!

Got one of those 8" Milwaukee metal cutting "Skill" type saws ! saw Lance demo one and said "That's for me".......now we'll see.

$40 Crapsman combination wrenche sets, sae and metric, Gearwrench 50-some piece 3/8 socket set. Most complete set of 3/8 sockets I could find outside a snap-on brand, which were about twice the money. Trouble is it only goes up to 19mm.

Will get more Mac's but needed some metric stuff.

I got an original John Deere wrench for a D400 corn sheller that I am restoring. The part # matches the parts manual. What a rare find. Thanks Santa

Milwaukee drill/driver and impact driver with charger and batts, plus 200 piece set of bits and drill bits and sockets for it, both 1/4 and 3/8 inch. Now I have B&D, Makita, Craftsman, DeWalt and Milwaukee. Should never run out of power. I'll probably run out of juice first.LOL

BIL gave me a HF gift card :(... I am not a HF guy I like the good stuff.... I would have to drive 120 miles round trip to cash it in... I spec I will pass it on to someone else...

See, their is your trouble. You are not supposed to cook clays. You're supposed to SMOKE-EM.

A good customer of mine gave me a new Milwaukee cordless Sawzall.
Dunno why. But you don't look a gift sawzall in the mouth.
I had no use for it - don't like the cordless jobs. So I traded it to a friend of mine for a Milwaukee right angle drill.
Older drill but very little use. He bought it new.
I've wanted one for a long time.
Don't tell my customer.

Does an egg beater count??? Yep I got one of those hand crank egg beaters for Christmas

I got a Home Despot gift card from a neighbor that I helped when the wind took out a BIG tree in his front yard.

I have a job coming up where one of those "multi-tool" doodads would be handy. Not something I'd normally buy as I can't foresee a lot of uses for it, but under the circumstances, I said "what the hey."

Stood at HD looking at Milwaukee, Makita, Porter-Cable and Dremel units, and even with the gift card it was going to take more cash out of my pocket than I was willing to part with for what may well be a "one time" need.

Then I got to looking at the Ridgid kit. The basic tool can use a number of interchangeable drive heads: Jig Saw, Recip Saw, Rotohammer, Ratchet, etc.

I've also been putting off buying a right-angle drill for the same reason: I might use it once or twice a year.

But, for $99 I got the Ridgid with the multitool kit included, and when they get them back in stock, I can buy the right-angle drill head for it. THAT seems like a reasonable deal.

That was a good trade; I would have done that too. Not to tell you anything you don't already know---be careful with that beast. Try not to ever use it in a position that's so awkward that you can't get your hands off it in a hurry. When the bit or auger binds in the work, rotation doesn't stop the instant you release the trigger. If you're not standing with both feet flat on the floor and the tool right out in front of you, you can get in a situation where the tool binds and pulls your arm over it so that you aren't able to release the trigger. I've heard of that happening and I've experienced it to some degree with less powerful tools---I had a 1/2" Bosch drill throw me off a step ladder, but no harm done to me or it.

Happy New Year,

Stan

You're right Stan.
Most any drill can get you if you're not careful.
About 30 years ago I was using a heavy 1/2" drill motor drilling a hole in a gate I was building. Had the gate on saw horses about crotch high.
The bit broke, drill kicked sideways and caught my pants right at the bottom of the zipper. Lot of momentum in a drill like that.
It caught my pants and underwear and wrapped them up in a big wad before it stopped turning.
Talk about your undies in a bunch.
I had to hand turn the chuck backwards to get myself free.
Figured I would be talking in a much higher voice.
I had a couple of scrapes and abrasions 'down there' but came out of it ok.
A lesson you don't forget when using power tools.

I carry a Leatherman multi-tool almost continuously. Would be lost without it. Saves me many a trip back to the shop for tools, when I need something simple - pliers, screwdrivers, wirecutters, knife, file, small scissors... Not the answer to all tool related needs, but a awfully handy companion.

I made it clear years ago that, unless I had given a manufacturer, tool description and number of the desired tool to never ever get me tools for Christmas or any other occasion.

Ever wish you could crawl into that spark plug hole and have a look see??? Well thanks to son-in-law and daughter, I can do next best thing. They got me a real nice bore scope or internal inspection scope some might call it. Endless uses for this thing.

I bought mine two weeks before Christmas. We were in the local K-Mart/Sears Outlet and they had the 8 piece sets of Craftsman 6 point, combination wrenches on clearance for $12.99, or nearly half price. I looked at the tags and they are all US made, so I bought two packs of both the standard and the metric...one each for the shop and the truck. I almost walked out without them after standing in line for nearly 10 minutes only to be told that I couldn't pay for Sears stuff at the K-Mart checkout. I initially said screw it and told the girl they could put all the stuff back themselves, but my wife convinced me to go ahead and at least get the tools (left everything else lying and went back to the Sears side) as they were priced so low......I love my wife.....
