Ford 4500 engine rebuild (pics)

Hey folks.

I am fixing up a Ford 4500 TLB (backhoe) that I
bought recently.

I just got the engine back from the machine shop
where the block was sleeved, the crank turned,
new cam bearings installed, piston height
checked and adjusted and new bearings
throughout.

The machinist was nice enough to invite me to
assist in the assembly and some of the
procedures, boy did he take me to school!

Anyway, I got the block back to the shop and am
beginning to assemble it and thought that I
might document the assembly and installation if
there is interest.

This segment the tappets are installed, the
camshaft slid into place, the camshaft gear and
hydraulic pump drive gear installed and torqued
and the cover plate is installed in the back of
the engine with its o-ring.

Comments appreciated,

Brad

Hello Brad Buchanan,

Looks like you got a good start. If you can provide pressurized oil to the engine before starting do it! Assembly lubricant is more then adequate though. But there is apart in the picture, with a bunch of buttons, where the torque wrench is, that not seams not part of the engine?

Guido.

Hey Guido!

The device is the control for my sat. radio.

I listen to bluegrass, 40's swing music classic rock and if I want to be depressed, BBC or Fox news.

Thanks MJ.

One of the things I would like to do if I can in my lifetime is visit the UK.

More specifically Scotland. I was born there.
