Does anyone use them for their net provider? Going to retire next year and need something at home besides the hot spot wife has now. House is down in a horseshoe shaped valley an they are the only ones that seem to be able to get us service. Is there something else out there that works good for you?

I have Hughes.net, had it for 5 years.
For surfing the net it works fine but i can't watch to much video(1/2 hr at best) cause it takes to much bites.
If i run out of bites i am dead in the water tiII the next morning when they refiII the daiIy bite aIocation.
i have a $62 montIy pIan

I think I've had every different kind. the US cellular router wifi device. has 2 antenna's to get a good signal. hughes net let me down bigtime. during the busy time; dial up was faster!

Here in N. FL Hughes Net sucks. My neighbor had it and cussed it all the time.

I am using local telco DSL and while not fast it is reliable.

We have Hughes for 3 years and just done the upgrade to their Gen4 today. It has worked good, it has some problems still better than dialup!!!

We have Dish net. I am pretty sure its Hughes Net in disguise. Awesome upload speeds, terrible down load, but they do give you 20 gigs of down load. We had Wildblues Excede. Great download speed, until you went over 10 gig, then they throttled you down to NOTHING!!!!!!!

I have Hughes. I upgraded to the Gen 4 last summer and noticed an immediate speed up. I have gone over my data allowance a couple of times, but have used a free token to get back to what I had. I am at the lowest Gen 4 rate and its pretty good most of the time. Before, the internet speed would really slow down after most people got home from work. That was no good. I had to do a radical amount of tree trimming to go to the gen 4 because the dish is adjusted further to the west, right into some big Box Elders. I am in south central Michigan, northwestern Washtenaw county.

You might want to consider a MiFi Hotspot with an antenna and amp, instead of Hughesnet. All depends on just how weak the wireless signal is. I had Hugesnet for 4 years and got fet up with it. Had it in two rural places where a Verizon or AT&T cell phone would get one bar, off and on. Sprint got no signal. Put an antenna up on the roof for the Verizon and it works great. Hughesnet download speed was OK most of the time. Upload was dismal. Also lost the signal at strange times like when the sun was extremely bright.

I have the original hughesnet, not gen4. It's better than dialup and about the sane as verizon broadband. From 3:00pm to midnight its fairly unusable due to demand i suppose.

If you can get DSL it is best. I have mid grade service 3gbs and can watch 2 streaming hd movies at the same time.
