Making a vacuum gun

I would like to make a vacuum gun to use with air. Will it work if I blew air through a quarter inch T, with a suction tube on the single side of the T? I need to vacuum some crap out of the bottom of a aluminium truck tank.

The air will have to go through an orifice that is extended into the discharge side of the T a little to create suction on the side of the T. Something like this might work for you.

I have done that, but you have to make a venturi, like
in some sandblasters. It's going to use a lot of air!
Google it, there is lots about venturies.

OK. I think I have a blaster from years ago somewhere. I'll have to see if I can find it, or go to HF. Looks like they're cheap enough. Thanks.

Check out Aircraft Tool Supply. On their site search for Wonder Gun Vacuum Cleaner. Cost is $35. I have a couple similar to that, they work good.

I have taken a piece of old plastic garden hose. Make a slit 18" -24" from the end and insert blow gun. Hose is probably 7-8 feet long. Works for me.
Blow gun is thin, maybe 5/16' and has big hole in end as you need lots of air.

What would be wrong with a vacuum cleaner or shop vac? Should be easy to rig up some kind of reducer if hose is too big to go down filler. Something as simple as a small hose with a lot of duct tape.

Yes a T will work.I have made them with a 1/4" T screwed into a blow gun with a length of plastic 1/4" air brake tubbing hooked on to the T.I use it to suck diesel fuel out of the cylinders when changing injectors in a Cummins,Volvo, ect It works great.

If there is anything flammable in the tank they tend to burn rather spectacularly.

I'm just a little leary of sucking gas fumes through the electric motor while in a container.

If you run 1/4 into a 1/4 by 1/4 by 1/2 tee, where it opens up to 1/2 there will be a big pressure drop and the other 1/4 will be suction.
