I just bought a used laptop computer and would like to change the access password. Can anyone tell me how to do it? Thanks in advance. Gene

For windows 7, click start, click control panel, click user accounts and family safety, and then click on change your windows password.

During a recent password aduit by a company, it was found an employee was using the following password: "MickyMinniePlutoHueyLouieDonaldGoofySacremento"
When asked why the employee replyed " instructions said 7 characters and include one capital".

I THINK this is what you are looking for. Went to Microsoft website (might give you a problem though, since you won't know the original owner's password if they did set one).

If you go to Microsoft DOT com and search for "change windows 8.1 log in password"... it's easier to read than what is pasted here because they highlight key words.

How do I change the password I use to sign in to Windows?

Whether you sign in to Windows with a Microsoft account or a local account, you can change your password in PC settings.

1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, tap Settings, and then tap Change PC settings.
(If you're using a mouse, point to the lower-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer up, click Settings, and then click Change PC settings.)

2. Tap or click Accounts, and then tap or click Sign-in options.

3. Under Password, tap or click Change. Enter your current password, and then tap or click Next.

4. Do one of the following:
• If you want to change the password for a Microsoft account, enter your current password again. Enter and reenter your new password, and then tap or click Next.
• If you want to change the password for a local account, enter and reenter the new password, enter a password hint to help you remember it, and then tap or click Next.

5. Tap or click Finish.

Are you saying you don't have the Windows password and you want to log into the PC? If the hard disk is encrypted you're SOL. You'll need to re-install the operating system. But otherwise you may be able to use a bootable CD to reset the password. Google "windows password recovery" to find out some methods. One is at the link below. If I was going to do it, I'd probably use Knoppix, which is a Linux operating system on a bootable CD; Knoppix has a tool to reset the Windows password.
