Need advice on pulling forklift motor

This is a Hyster forklift, made in 1978 as best as I can tell. It has a Chevy 4 cylinder. I want to pull the motor but am not sure where is best to split it, after the block or after the bellhousing? I assume it has some kind of torque converter. Does the counterweight need to be removed or is there enough room with it on?

i pulled the engine on an old hyster 2000 1 ton truck. had a wisconsin 4 cy. ended up dropping the counterweight/tail wheel out the bottom to get the engine to clear. lifted the truck up with a loader and just let the counterweight sit on the ground.

I have never taken a Hyster down myself. I'd pull the radiator first. That should let you see if you have room to slide the engine out of the transmission. The ring of bolts at the belling housing is where I split my Yale. Getting the bottom bolts is where I had problems with feeling under the thing. I have the counter weight off a Clark in my warehouse and the only advantage on that one is that you can see better unless you wanted to slide the engine out the back rather than the side. With the counter weight off it would be easier to lift the back up to get at the bolts. The Clark only had one bolt at the bottom in the center behind the trailer hitch pin and hooks at the top. Not much of a job to remove.

Dick I used to work in shop on fork lifts. We pulled the counter weight then radator. I'm not sure bit I'm thinking the bellhousinng comes with motor. Good luck Dave
