metal cutting skillsaw

Anyone have one of these saws ? How thick will they cut and how long do the blades last ? I expect they would be very loud too ?

We used a metal cutting blade on our 7 1/2 skill saw when putting the metal siding/roofing on our barn. Blades last a long time, but it is VERY loud. I strongly suggest ear protection.

I have owned an 8" Milwaukee metal saw for quite a while. They have their place but they are not a metal cutting cure all. They are not exactly cheap to operate. If time is money the cost lowers quite a bit as compared to some other cheaper methods as what they will do for you is give you precise cuts that require just a touch on the grinder and your ready to drill, mill weld or whatever. How long will the blades last? Ram it indiscriminately into anything metal and in short order it will be laying on a shelf unused, yes you can destroy blades as fast as you can bolt them on. If you run the thing carefully and avoid crusty rust, hard plate, welds, slag, the concrete floor under your work they will last a bit. I once made four rip cuts in a 8' sheet of new 1/2" thick plate. When I was done with that I cross cut those pieces maybe 50 cuts and the blade was in the saw for quite a while after that.

you didn't mention what you were wanting to cutt... if it is sheeting you can do the job with a 7.5" circular saw with a blade installed backwards...thows some sparks.... need earplugs and safety glasses.... I've cut miles of siding that way

I have cut 1/2 thick plate, various thicknesses on angle and channel with mine all with good success. Surprisingly low noise levels from what I was expecting. Much louder when I cut steel roofing material. I suspect because the sheet metal could chatter while being cut.

I use mine almost every day. I have worn out 2 and working on the 3rd one. When you figure the cost of acet and oxygen + grinding wheels + the accuracy that you get they are really quiet economical. I buy the blades 6 at a time for roughly $25.00 each. They will last a long time if taken care of. They work great on 3/8 in plate on down, but will cut up to 1' with no problem if you give it it's time. They are not that loud and the metal doesn't even get warm.I use mine mostly for sheet and plate. I have other saws for angle etc.

Weldingman where are you getting the blades for that kind of price??? I have a Milwaukee and the blades I have been using are $45 each.

Harbor freight makes one that is about 8". I have had two of them. The first crapped out after making 3, 12" cuts in 3/16" mild steel. HF took it back no muss or fuss. The second has lasted pretty good. Its pretty well maxed out with 1/4" IMO. The Milwaukee Lanse tests looks like it would be better suited for 1/2"plate. Pretty pricy as I remember. HTH Mike

JD seller, sorry for the delay in replying. They are sold on Amazon. Oshlun is the brand. I have used the Milwaukee also and I cannot tell any difference in quality. They are $23.56 now with free shipping.
