any one here have any experience with tire changing equipment, such as a Ranger R745 sold by Northern Tool and Equipment,i'm looking to buy one but I'm not too familiar with brand names. Thanks for any help,Al

When the boss put up his new shop he bought 1. This one will do car tires and a few light truck tires with very little problems. The machine he has is smaller than a conventional tire machine in the better brands. On all the name brand machines I have run over the years the control pedals are all in the same place. On this 1 they are not and it gets very comfusing if you are used to a coats or FMC etc. I tried to change a 12X16.5 skid loader tire on it last week. It was just too big a tire to do on that machine.

I bought a Derek Weaver rim clamp tire changer last year. Seems to work well. The largest tires I changed was 17 inch.

It works nice for the old Farmall open center front rims.

I use Coats and know folks with the knock offs that do a good job BUT there is always something they will not do as well as a Coats does. There seams to always be something the knock offs cheap out on and you can work around it.

If I were going cheap I would look at what Greg Smith has I have added some of there accessories to my Coats and they work well...
A tire changer is a simple machine that can be easily copied if you can put up with with were they cheaped out on it...

I would not buy a cheap balancer..

Open up your pocket book and buy quality he can write it off and have years of good service to boot... Coats and never look back...

Years ago I bought a manual tire changer out of an old gas station. Takes no air or electric, works great.

When I worked in the Mines in Death Valley, I lived over 30 miles from anyplace that could repair a tire. So, when I was in Las Vegas getting supplies, I stopped by the big American Discount Tire shop and paid $100. for all of their old, "worn out" Coates tire machines with all of the accessories for them. After dismantling them & cleaning up everything, I had enough "GOOD" parts to completely rebuild one machine (with a LOT of spare parts). - Still have it & use it all the time.
