Computer sound problem..any gurus...

I had some issues with my computer the other day, or thought I did. Long story short I looked at everything related to the issue I was having, and got that fixed with no problem. Beyond that, I don't remember changing anything important, especially anything sound related. As it stands, I have even done a system restore to a point before the sound problem started to no avail. Too, I reset every default I could find when that didn't work.

I never had a problem with the sound prior to this whole mess. Now it seems the sound on my computer works just fine, but if I try to play a video off of a web site, like Youtube, or even vids at other places, like links to recent news stories, I get no sound at all I know the speakers work because I get all of the sounds from the various actions, so I know that's not an issue.

I'm running Windows 7.. Thus far, like I said, I've reset every default I could find, I've checked, and rechecked everything I could find related to sounds, checked my security settings (the vids play but no sound anywhere), I've tried searching the Help section and got nothing other than the things I have already checked/tried for an answer.

In the end I am lost on this issue and hate to have to take it somewhere for something that's probably as simple to fix as a click of a button. So, I'm hoping one of you computer gurus can give me some idea what I am missing here and help me get if fixed. Thanks, Wayne

I've checked/tried that with all of them, and it does absolutely no good, regardless of the site or video type. They continue to play, but no sound at all, even where I know sound should be.

When I was trying to troubleshoot I intentionally left the speaker on the computer muted for one test, and turned on for the other to see what happened. The only difference in the two tests was it turned the speakers back on when the test indicated it was off. When it was already on, no changes were indicated.

I think there's got to be a program, driver, or something turned off somewhere and I just haven't found it yet.

I have been having the same problem with sound, didn't change or adjust anything and no sound on videos, can't even play Youtube tunes. Will try flashplayer and see what happens

Well,I figured it out..so stupid..on this laptop are two bars in front of the spacebar..the left controls sound and volume..I guess I had accidentally hit the bar shutting off the sound(mute)..when I went to function bar it showed mute undone..which it couldn't control, finally figured out what I had done..yes,I feel very stupid..but then my 8,9,and13 year old grandkids can do things with their ipads, computers that I have never dreamed of..grandkids can make you feel very stupid as well!

Wayne, I would unplug or switch off the power of the computer while it's running as if the power went off in the house. Let it come back on and reboot and you should have your sound back. I've had it happen to mine a few times and that's how I got it to come back on.
