anybody tried brazing with a mig welder? been reading a little on it, uses the lowest setting on the mig with a fast wire speed, and copper silicone CuSi3 wire. 75/25 shielding gas. just wondering.

In a previous life worked on the Minuteman ICBM systems. One of the mods we did involved brazing ground straps to steel tabs. We used mig brazing to do this, worked slick-a little learning curve bu basically same as regular MIG welding. FYI 90 ground straps, both ends to steel tabs on each of 1000 missile sites.

I know back in the nineties it was used in the body shop lines of automobile plants to weld car roofs. They called it "silicon bronze", which is the correct name for an alloy of copper and silicon. I'm not sure why it was used for this application and not anywhere else on the car.

I recently retired from the R&D lab at Lincoln. Saw quite a bit of it there. Works beautifully on galvanized steel. Of course it doesn't have as much strength.
