Small portable air compressors oil vs oil less

oil-less pancake diaphragm vs oiled piston and cylinder type for use in cold weather, 0- 25 deg F. Which would you go with? I picked up a used 110V dewalt oiled unit for really cheap but in the cold it struggled and threw the 20 amp breaker. Is this typical? Going to buy a new unit. Need it to work in lower temps.

Use a synthetic oil or 20wt non detergent oil.

My boy uses 0w20 synthetic oil in his Toyota
camery year around. He claims that's what Toyota
calls for. If you do use synthetic, it's
detergent, may cause a little foaming when water
gets in oil. I would think it would work in the
winter. I keep my small portable generator and air
compressor in a garage that doesn't get any colder
than 45

i have a porter cable oil less pancake, had it for
quite a few years. runs fine in cold weather, use
it for nail guns.
