Thanks for all the comments on the scope that was moving. As usual some recommend throwing money at the problem, some tell you how to fix it. I used both Old's and Kansas Cockshutt's suggestions. I put some silicone sealant in the bottom saddles, and a strip of electrical tape in the top. I let the silicone cure for a couple of days and took it out and shot it today, and it is fixed. No adjustments necessary, that's why I put the silicone in the bottom, it squeezes out to nothing and left the scope in the same place. Light rifle, lots of recoil, big scope, common problem!

My son has a .300 Remington Ultra mag. We used the Burris scope rings with the plastic inserts to mount it. He hasn't shot it a lot yet, but so far the scope has stayed put. Time will tell.

Glad you "fixed" it, on a forum you will get 30 different opinions, opinions are like noses everybody has one.
I can tell you from guys i know that love their guns , more than there family some days. They will spend the money getting a scope fitted properly. and won't go near anything 2 dollar with a fix.
If your happy thats good. guns are like tractors I fix for guys here. some guys spend mega big bucks on everything OEM. Others buy wally word oil/ filters, and jobber parts for a few $.
Your money your choice in what you do, you came here and got 2 different priced options.
Regards Robert

So glad you got to stay put. I haven't had that problem -yet, even though I have a shock shooting Savage Bear .338 and a heavy Burris Eliminator scope.

reminds me of a story about nasa, they spend millions of dollars developing an ink pen that had a pressurized ink cartridge that would write in outer space. the russians used a pencil......

> the russians used a pencil.

But the US astronauts didn't have to worry about having a broken pencil lead floating into their eye, which is exactly why the "space pen" was developed.

I bought one of them there space pins when they first cam out, I was expediting for a steel fabrication shop and spent a lot of time in the cold and wet, it wrote upside down too - best pin I ever owned. It would write on wet paper and I didn't always have a desk to write on so I was writing upside down all the time. They were pricy but well worth the money if you used it for work.
Thankx

Reminds me of the episode in Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance where the guy's handlebars are loose.
The author, Robert Pirsig, suggests his friend fix it with some pieces of a beer can.
The friend was aghast at cobbling his new bike and wanted to take it to the dealer.
But they used the beer cans and finished the trip.
