Any furnace guys out there?

Hey guys I've acquired a 120,000 btu furnace with a dual blower for FREE for my shop. Question is that I'm only planning to run 2- 6" runs, 1- 8" run and a register off the plenum. Is that enough or will my furnace overheat due to not enough runs? Thanks in advance mick

You should do fine. The velocity of air will be a little high, but since not in the house, you probably will not notice. The return air filter should be already installed. Good find.

I would think that you will need larger or more runs. But you can try what you have planed, and keep an eye on the warm air plenum temperature and if it runs near or above high limit temperature then add or increase your runs. Also you can run fan at a higher speed to get higher air flow.

How big of a register are you planning on putting on the plenum?
Rough figuring you need 100 CFM per 1000 BTU's
IIRC
1 - 6" round is about 125-150 CFM at .1 static
1 - 8" is roughly 175-200 CFM at .1 static

You need 1200 CFM
You are going to have roughly 550 CFM + the register. You will have very high static and a lot of air noise.
Odds are Yes, you are going to over heat...

Yep, what he said. Ya do not want to run off the limit.

You didn't say if it's oil or gas, if it's oil you could put a little smaller nozzle in it and slow the fan down. Otherwise put in more runs, it will be quieter.

Thanks I was afraid of that, I guess I need to raise up to all 8" runs and maybe try a 8x16 rectangular duct in there too! Thanks a lot guys. mick
